The Fire That She Is
"Ssssssssssh," she giggled and clutched his jacket tighter.
"Why shush me? You made the noise," he interjected smiling, cutting her off, his voice a low whisper.
For a moment, they stood silent, her face buried in his chest, his arms around her back and his chin resting on her head. They listened carefully to the human just around the corner of the building.
"I told you Parm, Kitt's around here somewhere. I swear I heard…"
"Artha, what makes you think Kitt would miss a race? She's probably at the track."
"But she's not…"
The rest of Artha's answer and Parm's own answer were too low to be heard as the two moved away. Kitt raised her head and looked at the building's corner, where the tiny alleyway they were in ended, and became one with the rest of the world.
Then she looked up at Moordryd, who pressed his forehead against hers, and said in a whisper, "I did not."
"You did too."
She opened her mouth to say something more, but he kissed her instead, stopping any remark that had been on the tip of her tongue. She reached up with her hands to clasp them together behind his neck. When the kiss ended, Moordryd straightened again from the bent position he had taken in order to kiss her. "You did too."
She grinned at him. "Well fine. But…I guess we should go now." She stared straight into his eyes mischievously, bright green meeting cold grey. "I have to kick your butt in the race, don't I? I can't go easy on you, people will start to suspect." She gave him a quick kiss, full of warmth and the fire that she was.
"Please Kitt," Moordryd said, kissed her forehead and breathed lightly on her hair. "I wouldn't have it any other way."
