DISCLAIMER: I do not own CSI, the characters, or their storylines. Nor do I own I See It Now by Tracy Lawrence.
I See It NowGrissom stood at the bar, looking out on the crowd of people. It was the annual 'Law Enforcement Gala' that he, as well as the rest of his team, were forced to attend.
He hated these things. Getting all dressed up, having to play nice with Ecklie and the sheriff. What he hated most was seeing her, dressed in a beautiful dress that hugged her curves perfectly, her hair pulled up elegantly, a few loose strands framing her face. It was torture.
It's good to see your face again, it's been awhile
How am I doing, well I get by somehow
You sure look good since your new love came in your life
You know I didn't see that fire in you he's found
Oh but I see it now
Even though he saw her at the lab everyday, Grissom hadn't taken the time to really look at her in a long time. He almost couldn't work anymore. It hurt nearly too much. Looking at her was too much.
She wasn't his to look at anymore. Not that she ever was, he wouldn't let himself.
Oh I never saw that look in your eyes
And I never had you hold me that tight
And I never saw you dance with your feet off the ground
Oh but I see it now
She just seemed to glow. Now, as she was being twirled around, dancing with the love of her life, you could tell.
Her eyes were on fire. Not in the way that Grissom was used to seeing though. He was used to seeing her with her eyes ablaze in anger. Now, this look was different. Her eyes shone with all the love in her heart.
She held onto him so tightly, as he held onto her. Both of them looked as though they were the only people in the room.
Grissom felt his heart break.
Holding him, you never looked more beautiful
Letting go has been so hard on me
And sitting here, it's clear to see what he means to you
The way you look at him, it ain't no mystery
He's all I couldn't be
Grissom would never know what it felt like to hold her in his arms. Never know the taste of her lips, her skin. He wondered, what sounds would she make when he kissed her neck, touched her? What would she look like under him, her body given over to pleasure? He would never know. She wasn't his. She belonged to someone else. She was so beautiful. Everyone could tell that she was in love.
Oh I never saw that look in your eyes
And I never had you hold me that tight
And I never saw you dance with your feet off the ground
Oh but I see it now
As the song ended, Grissom decided that it was time to leave. He was almost to the door when Catherine stopped him, telling him to watch. He did and he felt his heart stop.
There, not ten feet away, was Nick Stokes, down on one knee. Catherine was silently crying and Grissom heard every word. "Baby, I love you so much, more than anything in the world. I have never met anyone as smart, funny or talented as you. You are the most beautiful woman that I have ever known. Will you marry me Sara?" She nodded. Grissom's heart shattered into a million tiny pieces.
And I never saw you dance with your feet off the ground
Oh but I see it now
