Running Away
He'd always been good at running. It was just that, somewhere along the line, it had translated to being good at running away.
He hadn't meant to run away from things. It just happened. Whenever his brother brushed him off, he'd go to the park with his ball and himself and just kick it around. Whenever his parents started fussing over Osamu and forgetting him he'd slip away into his room or, if they were out, into a corner where no-one would panic but no-one would care too much either…
And then he'd run away to the Digital World.
It had been an accident at first, but too quickly he found he didn't want to leave. Why would he? It was a beautiful world, and he had friends that cared about him – him and not Osamu like his real world. He could stay there forever, even if it was dangerous and they were always fighting and he didn't always like the fighting –
Often they'd run and hide instead, laugh together like friends playing hide and seek – but it was still running away. When he shut himself in his room upon returning, it was running away. When he let go of his brother's hand and hurried across the road to get away from him, it was running away. When he shut himself up after the funeral, it was running away.
And when he donned the cloak and mask and became the Kaiser – well, that was the ultimate running away.
