I just borrowed them for the story. A very short but heart felt snippet.PG
Darien was keeping watch over Bobby. That was a switch, he was the
one that usually needed someone to keep an eye on him.
Bobby had been taken by Chrysalis and held captive for ten days.
Claire had him back on his medications, and he was better.
But he'd really been through the wringer.
Darien had been going crazy when his partner was missing. He'd
been out of control upset at one point. Even Claire noticed he was
reacting to Bobby's disappearance with more emotion than usual.
Darien hadn't admitted his attachment to his Partner to himself more
than a few weeks ago. Then when Hobbes had gone missing, it
jolted him so badly he was forced to admit his true feelings.
Bobby was sleeping now at the back of the lab. Claire had a bed set up
for him because she was unwilling to allow him out of her care.
This was the first night she'd taken a few hours and gone home.
Darien had convinced her, by promising to not leave Bobby alone.
Bobby was a fighter, he'd looked like hell when they had first found
him. If they had fed him it couldn't have been much. He looked like
he'd lost weight, even his face was thinner. The dimple and line that
traveled down from it on the left side of his face was more
pronounced. But there was life back in his eyes now. Darien had been
worried about him when he'd first gotten back.
Claire explained that the paranoid was due to his having gone with out
his medications.
Bobby mumbled in his sleep and started to move his arm. Darien moved
towards the bed to check on him. Claire had said he'd been
dreaming most nights. She'd had to wake him one night, as the dream
sounded like a nightmare.
Bobby mumbled again, then Darien heard some of the words.
"Fawkes have to find him……. keep him safe. Finish the mission."
Darien hated to hear that Bobby even worried about him in his dreams.
He wanted his partner to rest.
Darien sat on the side of the bed and placed a hand on Bobby's back.
"It's Ok now Bobby. You're home safe, I'm safe. You don't have to
worry about me anymore."
Bobby stilled under Darien's touch. He was a light sleeper. He waited
to see if Darien said anything more. He must have been dreaming
again, it was always the same the past few months. Darien and he
became separated during a mission and he couldn't find him.
His partner was in trouble and he couldn't reach him in time.
Bobby heard Darien sigh heavily, and the hand flexed on his back.
The fingers messaging slightly. "I'm glad your back Bobby. I don't
think I could have lived through losing you."
Hobbes was moved by his partner's words. He knew he wouldn't want
to live if something were ever to happen to Darien. But he hadn't
realized that Darien felt the same way.
"I'm sorry to make even your sleep a struggle. I never understood
before how much of a struggle everyday was for you. Claire explained
to me about your disorder."
Bobby wasn't sure he could listen quietly any longer. He didn't want
Darien's pity. He was about to roll over and let Darien know he was
awake when….
"I want to tell you that I love you man. But I don't guess I'll ever
be able to say it to you when you can hear me."
Darien moved off the bed then and returned to his book at the desk.
Bobby didn't know how to respond, especially since Darien seemed
to think he couldn't express himself to his partner face to face.
It was best to leave things they way there were for now.
He went back to sleep, but he didn't have anymore disturbing dreams
for the rest of the night.
