He'll pause, be looking at a spot that places you just out of his line of sight. He'll be holding his glasses in his right hand (there'll be the slightest hint of a frown on his brow; enough confusion in his eyes for you to know that this was never going to work).

You'll be in the doorway— you're always in the doorway, never in the room. You're always there, always waiting and always, always in two states of mind. Inside, outside; here, gone; in the light, in the dark; always moving, never still and you have to wonder if that's what makes you elusive to him.

He'll be thinking. You'll be in the doorway. (This will be déjà vu all over again unless you do something to stop it). He'll look up.

You'll be gone.
