The group was asleep; they were camping in a forest filled with many illusions. You could hear lost souls crying out for help. Kagome suddenly awakened from her deep sleep screaming "Why!" Inu Yasha heard the scream and quickly ran to her side.
He nudged her on the shoulder gently, getting rougher with each passing second until she was completely awake. "Kagome I heard you screaming, what's wrong?" He asked her sweetly as he gave her a concerning smile. She slowly sat up and wrapped her arms around the concerned hanyou. Inu Yasha pulled her closer to him and sat there rocking her back and fourth.
"You and Kikyo were kissing." Kagome sadly murmured under her breath, Inu Yasha understood what she had quietly said.
He placed his hand against the back of her head and hugged her tightly. "I understand. This is a forest filled of illusions, and it shows you your worst fear. Miroku told me about this place."
Kagome looked up at him questioningly and asked him "Did you see what you fear most?" Inu Yasha became saddened and answered, "I saw the day that I got sealed to the God tree by Kikyo."
She became angry and yelled, "I was hoping that maybe your worst fear would be me getting killed."
Inu Yasha looked into her tearing eyes and said to her honestly "I know you understand somewhat." Kagome knew that she did understand, but she had fallen in love with him and wanted herself to be his priority. She pushed him away from her and ran deeper into the forest. "I thought you loved me, sorry for not understanding that you don't."
He stood up and sighed. "Kagome, I do love you, you silly girl." He murmured. Knowing how dangerous this forest is he took off after the confused miko.
Kagome came to a stop as she reached a gigantic tree. She looked up and the tree seemed to disappear into the heavens.
"Kagome wait up!" Inu Yasha screamed in agony as he saw her climbing the tree. Inu Yasha ran to catch up with her. "Don't climb that tree, if you continue then you'll be lost in the sky forever!"
She looked down at him and angrily yelled, "Isn't that what you want!" The hanyou backed away and looked at her. He could tell that she meant what she had said but he did not know why.
"I would never want to lose you Kagome. Kikyo will always be apart of my life, because of what happened fifty years ago. Please be sensible Kagome!" He called.
"He's not lying; he does care about me." She told herself. Kagome was about fifty feet above the ground and became terrified when she had looked at the ground. "Help me get down Inu Yasha!"
Inu Yasha leaped gracefully in the air and dug his claws into the tree so he would be sturdy. "Grab onto me Kagome." He yelled. Kagome inched her way to the hanyou. When she was close to him, he scooped her into his arms and flew to the ground.
"Sorry Inu Yasha." She whined. She flew into his arms and he tightened his grip. "I love you Kagome. Don't you ever doubt that!"
She grinned and nodded as she leaned her head on his strong shoulder. Inu Yasha pulled her against his warm body as she snuggled against him. Kagome quickly gave him a friendly kiss on the cheek and rocked in his arms.
"I love you too Inu Yasha." Kagome passionately said.
