Summary: What if McKay had been a bit slower at the end of 'The Long Goodbye' Very short fic.

" " denotes speech.

"I've done it."

Rodney's words came over the radio and crushed Tayla's heart. She had honestly believed that woman now controlling Dr Weir's body would release the Healon Gas into the life support system before Dr McKay could override her control. A wisp of smoke curled up from the muzzle of her P90. She had killed Colonel Sheppard for nothing, killed the man she had come to love more than life itself, in a needless attempt to save others.

"See you soon, John." She said, raising her sidearm.

The gun shot rang out over the radio, causing Rodney and Colonel Caldwell to stare at the security feed in horror, their eyes drawn to the bodies of the leader of the Atlantis Military contingent and the leader of the Athosian people.

"I should have been faster." Rodney said in shock.

"Doctor?" Colonel Caldwell said.

"She heard I did it just after she shot him, didn't she?" McKay asked.

"Yes, so?" the confused Colonel said.

"Only me and Ronon knew, but they were engaged, and Tayla thought she might have been pregnant."

Without the guiding influences of John Sheppard and Tayla Emmargan in less than two months the Atlantis Expedition had ended. The City was in several billion peaces on the ocean floor, five expedition members managed to return to Earth and the Deatalus was stranded between the Milky Way and Pegasus Galaxies without Hyperdirve, Life Support or any living crew.
