Before This Day

An icy, dark place

Chattering teeth and shaking limbs

A bloodied heart of pitch black

Glistening shards of a broken mirror of memories

Lost in large, damp forests of our deepest fears

Visuals occurring from fading, faltered fractions of a time once thought more of

Sweet alternations to sounds not yet caught truly by man

Scrawling's in a storybook left to leave an indent in this cruel world

Yet others will try to stop you in completing this goal

We are walking blindly with boulders of discrimination rolling down at us

Yet, even if we are walking the tightrope with a blindfold

We never seem to give up, we want to make it to the other side

But, it's harder than we could have imagined

And sometimes people fall or lose their sense of balance

And we may start to look down and become terrified of what may await us

But, everyone has a different type of method to get a mission accomplished

Everyone has their routine that teaches them to calm themselves

But before this day, we cried

We were slowly dying

Slowly, becoming a pool of caked blood left to stain the floor and walls

We can't question why we got here in the first place

As they will throw more weapons of crumbling deaths

We will think of the days we barely dodged the bullets shot at us in the rain

But before this day, we would not fight

But we will now declare war

We will march into force like it's walking to our so-called destiny

We'll hold our guns high in the air

Because of rapid gunshots that ring within our ears, within our minds

That contribute to the pain that we feel when we listen to the blood-curdling screams of those who fought with us in the battle of respect and self-loathing.

As we recall the ones who died in our cause because we just wanted to stop being called hurtful names

Just because we wanted to turn to violence to solve the subject of our equation

The one thing we could think of that seemed logical in the minds full of the two most common colors

Red and blue

Red for our burning thoughts of the most gruesome things we could do to the darkness that surrounds us

Blue for the burning tears that create themselves behind our will, just to dry out our eyes so we don't know when we are being attacked

We fought with force

We may consider turning the gun the other way

We pretend that that is our only way out of this war

The only way to win this war

The only way to end the constant pain and suffering

For we were pushed to the ground because of how capable we were

We lost our sense of security

But they will not win this battle

Even if the skies turn in their favor and throw the worst at us

We will stand tall

We will take every bruise and stitching job they have to offer

For we are not afraid to fight for ourselves, for our comrades

We will win this battle of light and dark

Even if this battle shall never end

We will continue to fight against their transparent armies

For we are called the losers for a reason
