"Why are you still here?" He wondered.
"We weren't finished," the voice growled.
"Apparently not."
He twirled his sword, aiming it at the shadows.
"You should have left the villagers out of this."
A figure rose from the debris...
"Too late for that."
"Unfortunately."
"You are not frightened...?"
"I told you to run."
"I didn't have a choice!"
"You should have left."
His voice cracked on grief.
"I could have helped you."
"You... betrayed me..." Timbers fell, raining sparks.
He lifted from the fire.
"No," said Markus. "You betrayed us... your family."
"I am no family to oppressors. And you can be no family to a murderer."
"You admit that?"
"It is the truth," he stated.
He bore his expressionless eyes at him.
"Are we really going to fight?"
"Like I said. You should have left the villagers out of this."
"You drew them in. Their blood is on your head, Notch."
"That is not true," said Markus.
"Then what is the truth?"
"I don't know."
"Neither do I. All I can do is trust in myself."
"Your mother would be proud."
"Shut up."
"You're right. That is a lie. She wouldn't be proud of this."
"I know that now," he growled.
"So come back with me. Stop this."
"I won't. Not for the world."
He lifted up into the air. Tongues of rippling flame lapped at his feet.
His arms stretched wide.
"Time to submit."
"You know I can't do that," said Markus.
"Then what can you do, Notch? You have about ten seconds."
"You wanted the truth."
"That is right."
"I'll give it to you."
"Why did you abandon me?"
"I have the answers."
"You left me."
"He was your brother."
A shriek erupted the air. Markus flinched under the intensity of the scream.
"Noooooo!"
Markus edged forward...
"Briiiiiaaaaaan!"
He plunged his blade deep into sodden flesh.
Herobrine flinched.
He leveled his eyes to Markus'. Burning white.
Markus gasped at the horror of what he'd done.
"Oh..."
"You have killed me, father."
"Michael... I never wanted..."
"I understand why you did it."
"You know I can never live with myself now..."
"You have betrayed me again," he coughed.
"I know, Michael... I know."
"Just as I betrayed you."
"Yes," Markus sobbed.
"I told you I was immortal."
"Your brother has been avenged."
"Yes."
He slumped into his arms.
Markus caught him, and held his cold dead body dear.
Herobrine's blood pooled from the wound. And his last words reverberated in the old creator's ears.
