The mission seemed simple enough: Find and report Hojo's labs, both official and non. Unfortunately, while the team was told of what they might find, they hadn't yet discovered anything quite like the lab under what was left of the dilapidated Shinra Mansion.

The team of three had been seeking hidden labs for the better part of a year, when they received a tip concerning the Shinra Mansion in Nibelheim. It said that, some years ago, the town-folk had seen ShinRa personnel near it. There had also been glimpses of someone who appeared to be a scientist. They apparently hadn't thought much of it at the time, aside from the occasional curious whisper.

The team set out for Nibelheim shortly after receiving the tip. They arrived just before sunset, and so stayed the night at the inn. The next morning, they started investigating the mansion and it took a couple hours to find their way into the basement.

That brings us to where they are now. Marlegra, usually called Mal, was running down the steps after hearing Annie scream. Doug, on the other hand, was waiting in the near-roofless foyer, to make sure no one followed them in.

"Annie!" Mal shouted as he neared the bottom of the steps, then froze at the sight past Annie's shoulders.

Two tubes made of glass stood near the back of the room. A few meters away was a desk, with a computer and several sheets of paper on it. Several shelves, around the edges, containing different vials and bottles and whatnot. What they were staring at, however, was the steel table in the middle of the room. It was covered in spatters and streaks of what appeared to be blood, nearly black with age, and the puddle in a slight dip in the floor near it, that was quite obviously mako.

When Mal took a closer look, he spotted restraints at the sides and near the bottom, as well as a strap hanging off near the middle. He recognized them from the lab in the ShinRa building as the kind used to hold SOLDIERS.

"Annie..." Mal whispered to her, and she turned her head towards him in response "Go upstairs and tell Doug what's here. Have him call in the report"

Annie nodded, and dashed around Mal, back up the stairs. Mal stepped into the room, and headed immediately for the tubes, not wanting to go near the blood-streaked table.

'Judging by the messes, they must having been in a hurry to leave. I wonder why?'

As he got closer to the tubes, he noticed something on the sides closest to the space between them. It was writing. He stopped between the bases and turned to the right.

'Let's get out of here'

Mal choked a bit, realizing that whatever had been in the tubes was sentient, possibly human. He almost stopped himself, but turned towards the other tube.

'Feeding time
that's our chance'

AN: I don't know how I came up with that name. I just wanting a guy's name that started with M and wasn't Mark, Marcus, or Michael.
