A/N: Also for Bluepulse Week 3
Disclaimer: I don't own Young Justice, DC Comics, or any of it's wonderful characters
There was a shriek. Ripping through the nighttime sky like a bullet, straight and fast toward the heavens. The firework unraveled in a swirl of brilliant color and glitter as it exploded over the fawning crowd. Jaime felt excitement bubble up inside him as he gazed at the display. He'd always loved fireworks; he could remember all the New Years spent with his family, with cheap kazoos, sparkling cider, and silly party hats. And although this year was different, it was by far Jaime's favorite. 2017 was officially here and Jaime couldn't think of anyone he'd rather spend it with than Bart.
Jaime kissed Bart's cheek. "Happy New Year, carino."
Bart wrinkled his nose and laughed. "You too, her-man-oh."
Jaime nuzzled Bart's warm face, trying to get him to turn his cheek and meet his lips. Bart ignored him, his gaze remaining fixated on the sky. The vivid lights and bursts reflected off Bart's glassy golden eyes. His lips were parted and his eyebrows knitted, deep in thought.
Jaime pulled away. "What are you thinking about?"
Bart's frown deepened. "The future."
Jaime tensed immediately. "What? Why? But we crashed it, right? None of those terrible things are going to happen and—"
Bart turned his head and looked at Jaime in confusion. "What? Oh, Blue, no. Not that future."
Bart smiled and leaned forward. He stood on his toes to take Jaime's face in his hands. "Our future."
Jaime grinned as Bart kissed him and Jaime knew there wasn't anyone else he'd rather spend his future with.
