A/N: Coffee shop AU for Chaos Walking. For some reason I have trouble writing for Chaos Walking but this has been in my head forever, so I decided to publish. Hope you enjoy!

The first day he saw her it was raining. Rain pounded on the roof of the small coffee shop, a never ending stream of noise. She looked out of place, standing out against the normality of the shop. She looked so serene, so quiet. Completely absorbed in a book as an empty cup and half eaten muffin lay disregarded on the table. He studied her, the way her hair fell slightly past her shoulders, how her freckles formed constellations across her cheeks, and how her fingers tapped a rhythm all her own on the back of her book. And he was intrigued.

He stopped in the coffee shop everyday after school. Sometimes he saw her, always absorbed in a book or her laptop screen, oblivious to the chaos around her. He was tempted to buy her a coffee or write a note, like in a cheesy romance novel, but he always backed out last minute. It seemed wrong to disturb something so peaceful.

Weeks turned to months and she started to notice him. Sometimes it was just a glance up from her book. Sometimes they'd catch each other's eyes. And sometimes she'd smile. He'd do anything for that smile.

The first day he spoke to her it was raining. He was sitting on a couch shifting his focus between his coffee and the girl. He fidgeted with the hem of his shirt, tugging on it nervously. And for the first time ever he watched her stand up, put her things into her brown messenger bag, and leave the shop, the bell ringing behind her.

"Wait!" he stoop up and chased after her. He watched her turn around, the rain pounding hard on both their heads. She stared at him questioningly. "I- um. I just wanted to say hi," he awkwardly smiled, his cheeks burning. "I'm Todd, by the way. Um- Todd Hewitt."

"Viola," she replied, smiling.

It felt like finally.
