Repo
"Remember vote yes on proposition 1-8-90 to keep organ repossessions legal." A females voice proclaimed over one of the many loud speakers on the city streets. "If gene co can't repossess organs they can't supply them cheaply to the people who really need them… and can pay of course." Teal put her head down, her brunette hair covering her face. A bag of groceries was in her hand and she was walking home to her apartment from Alpsa mart. The city street was illuminated by the fluorescent light, which reflected off the puddles on the dark pavement, and cast false light through the darkness. The streets were barren, only three or four people including her. And she could see what she thought was a corpse leaning on a wall.
Teal reached an intersection, looked left and right, and went left, on to Somborn street. Avoiding Buo street which led to the bad part of town. Even though it would add another ten or twenty minutes to her trip. Her trip home was completely uneventful though she did almost trip over what looked suspiciously like a hand, but she didn't look back. You couldn't, to keep your sanity in this world you had to ignore death… and be punctual with your payments.
The door to her apartment complex opened with a creak, and she quietly walked in careful not to disturb her neighbor known as who was a very light sleeper. Teal found her apartment number, 97, and taking the key out of her pocket opened the door. She was greeted by her dog who at first was snarling, then seeing who it was stopped and began to whimper. She bent down and stroked the border collie, and asked "What's wrong B.J" The dog whimpered and ran into the study. Teal sat down her groceries and followed the dog.
Her father was on his rocking chair, which moved back and forth rhythmically, the T.V was on in the corner and the local news was playing.
"Dad" She asked nervously. Her father's hand hung limp over the side of his chair.
"Dad wake up." Teal said and pushed her dad's head which caused him to fall out of his chair. Teal shrieked her father's throat was cut, his chest opened and his Gene Co heart had been removed.
"Daddy no!" She screamed and kneeled to her father's side, when something caught her eye. A notice of repossession was on his chair. "Why didn't he tell me!" Teal said through tear's "I could have helped him pay.." Then it hit her. She was paying her way through college (Her dad was helping) her dad didn't want her to have to give up her education for him.
Teal stood up trying to stifle tear's but failing. She didn't know what to do she couldn't afford a funeral for her father.. Or even a cremation. She sat down by her father's body and cried uncontrollably. She had no family anymore, she didn't know her mother, or any of her family. She was alone. What can she do. Teal stood up grabbing a back pack, filling it with what little money she had, a bottle of water, and a Container of dog
food. Then she put B.J on a leash and giving one last glance at the apartment left turning in her key at the front desk.
(Sorry it's so short it's more of an introduction that's why the story move's so quickly. I promise my writing will improve considerably when i get into the real story thanks for readin'!)
