I saw Death on the street one day,
He said, "Will you come with me?"
I said, "No sir, I must go home, perhaps another day."
He said, "That's fine, but I'll be waiting, you see.
For none can avoid me and none can control me,
I always find a way."
That was many years ago, precisely to the day.
My friends and family have all passed on
And Death is on his way
for me.
I have tried to run and I have tried to hide,
And I'm sure that Death can be defeated by my pride.
But he said, "None can avoid me and none can control me,
I always find a way."
I turned 1200 years old today.
My timeline spans a mile.
Death is on his way,
and I just wait and smile.
I am dying, you see, and it can't be stopped
Growing tired, against that blue door I am propped.
Death is here now, and he's holding my hand.
I know my time has come, I try to stand.
"Hello, old friend." He says, and he seems almost sad.
"It's time." I reply, thinking of this life I've had.
He smiles and says, "Not quite. You've got some fight left yet."
Then, I'm covered in gold, new life I shall get.
Death will take my old body home, to stay with all the rest.
This new me rises up and gazes to the West.
"What will you do?" Death asks, knowing I can't stay.
I say, "I don't know, we'll see.
I haven't decided yet, who I'm going to be."
Death grins and says, "Good luck, now I must be on my way."
"Farewell!" I say. "And I hope we don't meet again, for a while."
"You have nothing to fear." Death says with another smile.
"For none but you can avoid me and none but you can control me,
For you, Doctor, you always find a way."
A/N: This is my first attempt at this kind of thing. Let me know what you think about it!
