Snoring
Blair: He snores. Seriously? Why does he have to snore? I can't take the noise. I can't take the rasping and wheezing. And I mean he snores. It's obnoxious. I can't even begin to explain how much that irks me, when I'm lying in our bed at night, trying desperately to fall asleep. He never snored… no, I mustn't allow myself to think about him… But oh god, the snoring. When he fell asleep, I almost never knew. He only fell asleep after making sure we were done with our conversation (or other 'activities') before his breathing evened out.
Chuck: It's too quiet. At night, in bed when I allow myself to think about her, the silence kills me. I can feel the quiet in my ear drums. Pressing. When she was here, she snored. But softly; just enough so I'd know she was sleeping. I never told her thatshe snores, because I know how much she hates it. She would have gotten pissed and then we would've gotten into a fight and then… well, I guess makeup sex after that. When she was here with me, there was almost never a quiet moment. There were either words, or moans (or screams), or snores, or at least soft breathing. But now, nothing. Silence.
"Serena, he snores", I said huffily into the phone.
"So?" answered Serena. "What's the big deal?"
"The 'big deal' is that it's extremely annoying. And I can never fall asleep with him wheezing in my ear", I explained exasperatedly.
"Well, what are you going to do about it?"
"I have no idea. I just know that this can't go on"
"Blair. You're nitpicking. You're suddenly finding excuses to be annoyed with Louis. First it was his closet organization, then his alcohol preferences (or lack there-of), then his… well, you know. And no, I do NOT want to relive that conversation. Anyway, now you're complaining about his snoring? Blair, you've got to stop comparing him to…" she trailed off.
"To who, Serena? I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about".
"Look, either learn to live with him… or don't", sighed Serena.
"It's too quiet, Nate", I said.
"What do you mean? Right now? Because it's pretty damn loud right now".
We were sitting at Victrola, having some drinks. I gave Nate a look that conveyed how stupid he sometimes was.
"No, not now, genius. I mean at home. It's an almost eerie silence, without…"
"Tell me about it. I'm used to hearing all sorts of crazy noises come from your room but lately… not so much. What's going on man?" Was Nate really that oblivious?
"Nathanial", I said with a pointed look.
"Ohhhh, right. Bllaaaiirrrrr", drawled Nate. He apparently had a little too much to drink.
"Come on, let's go home Nate."
A week later, she showed up in New York. It was all over Page Six. Her engagement ring was gone.
Then, she showed up at his hotel room.
"What are you doing here?"
"He snores".
They both smiled.
