Why Emma had agreed to this she had no clue, seriously who got all dressed up if it wasn't to impress someone? But here Emma Swan sat, in Storybrooke's only fancy restaurant called L'amour, Waiting for her date. Maybe he won't show Emma thought as she sipped her red wine, it wouldn't be the first time I've been stood up.
"Emma!" Emma looked up and saw her date walking towards her table smiling, Emma again wondered why she'd agreed to this.
"Hey David."
"Sorry I'm late" Her father apologized as Emma stood to greet him. Emma suddenly felt self conscious of her red dress and killer heels.
"You look beautiful" Emma blushed
"Thank you" Emma mumbled, she wanted to run but stayed rooted to her spot.
"These are for you" David said handing Emma a bouquet of a dozen lavender roses.
"Oh David…" Emma began
"Your mother told me they were your favorite." David smiled sheepishly
"Thank you"
"Your welcome" Emma and David sat and glanced over their menus in silence.
After placing their orders an awkward silence fell between the two.
"So… how's… work?" Emma said trying to strike up a conversation, it was lame. Emma knew it was lame, they worked together for Pete's sake! But she was trying here.
"That's not what to talk about." David said knowingly
"Then what is it I want to talk about?" Emma asked
"It." Emma stiffened and took a big gulp of wine, thank God she had ordered a bottle!
"We need to talk about it sooner or later" David said
"So this is why you asked me to dinner? So you can find out how crappy my life was?" Emma cried
"Honestly I'm surprised you said yes to dinner." David said Emma glared
"Fine, what do you want to know?"
"How old were you when you gave up… on me?" David asked Emma's eyebrows hit her hairline.
"You mean when did I stop hoping my Dad would swoop in and save me from all the pricks who put their hands on me growing up?" David turned ash white at the mention of the horrible foster father's who left Emma with welts and bruises as a child.
"I was seven" it was David's turn to look surprised
"Seven?"
"Yup" Emma said taking another gulp of wine and topping off her glass.
"I just realized I was stuck there and you weren't coming for me."
"Oh God Emma-"
"Don't" the sharp edge in her voice startled him.
"I don't need your pity, what's done is done, so can just eat and pay so I can get out of here?" Tears were gathering along her lash line and burned her eyes.
"We do love you, you know that right?" David said
"Sure, you love me enough to put me in a box and ship me to Maine!" Emma cried sarcasm dripping in her voice.
"That was not my fault-"
"Then who's is it because I need someone to blame!" The tears rolled down Emma's face now. She didn't even attempt to hide them or wipe them away.
"Do you want me to call you Daddy? Is that what you want? Because I'm sorry buddy but you are out of luck!" Emma threw her napkin onto the table.
"You know what this was a bad idea, I'm done." Emma said getting up and storming out of the restaurant. David at her heels,
"Emma stop!" He cried running after her. As she stalked down the streets of town.
"Emma Marie Swan stop!" Emma froze and whirled on David
"How do you know my middle name?" Emma barked
"Who do you think came up with it?" David asked.
"Just hear me out, I know I've hurt you, a lot. But we're family we have to move past this!" Emma saw the sincerity in David's eyes and sobbed.
"I can't be the daddy's girl you want me to be!"
"I'm not asking you to be anything" David said
"I'm asking you to try." Emma sobbed harder and let David wrap his arms around her and comfort her.
"I don't care how big you get, you'll always be my little ray of sunshine, my Emma." David whispered kissing her forehead.
I'm waiting on pins and needles for Emma to call David Daddy. Just sayin' I got the feels so please review!
