James Was Wrong
I walked alone to the tree on the grounds.
The tree that hid what was meant to be
I didn't see that girl watching knowingly
as she made her rounds.
Tonight was the night of the full moon and as I had every month for the past six years I was to walk out to the tree that housed the tunnel to the shrieking shack, where I would once again undergo my transformation. I left the common room five minutes before curfew.
I made my way quickly down the stairs and out the doors. Across the lawn I ran. It was not yet dark, oh the joys of late summer.
When I got to the tree, I saw the shadow of a woman was in my vision. It was difficult to see but I could have sworn that was Lily.
"So, is the transformation painful?" she asked.
I was shocked, how did she know? How come she was blocking my path now that she knew? "Yea a little." I replied unthinkingly.
"Oh," she said with a frown.
"Wait, why aren't you afraid of me?" I asked before she could once again commandeer the conversation, like she always did.
She took a step forward and pulled me into a hug, "because you're my friend." she said softly.
I couldn't stop the words from coming, "Is that all?" I imeadiatly regretted those words. This was James's girl. At least that's what he thought.
She pulled out of the hug, looked me straight in the eye with a smile, and kissed me.
James was wrong.
