AN: Personally I am more a fan of the Stef/Callie relationship but the story works better from Lena's point of view.
It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon; Lena had convinced Callie to join her on a Sunday stroll on the beach. Callie climbed a stone and sat down to watch the sea while waiting for Lena to finish talking to a friend she met. Lena watched Callie thinking that stone looks really slippery. She sighed in relief when she sat down. A couple of minutes later she said goodbye to her friend and walked towards Callie. When she called her name she spun around and fell off the stone. aS She called Lena's name, she could hear the panic in her voice and then just like that, she was swept away out into the sea.
- Callie! Callie!, she called.
- Lena wake up! It's just a dream, Stef shook her out of her nightmare. Did Callie disappear again, he asked with sympathy. She had been having nightmares like that ever since Callie ran away. Sometimes it was a wave, sometimes Callie was a child and was snatched up from the playground. For some reason the worst one was the one where they were having a late night chat in the kitchen Lena turned around to pour herself some water and when she turned around she was gone. That one was the worst because that's almost how it happened.
It was the night of the wedding Lena was in the kitchen drinking a glass of water before bed and Callie walked into the room. Lena could see that something was troubling the girl. –Hi Sweetie, you can't sleep either? Is something wrong? –No, I guess I'm just a little wound up she said avoiding Lena's inquisitive eyes. –Are you sure? –I…ehh Callie started but when she noticed Lena trying to hide a yawn she stopped. It's nothing, you should go back to bed. –Are you sure? I wouldn't mind a little chat Lena said trying to draw a smile from the young girl. I'm sure Callie replied. –Okay we'll talk tomorrow yeah?
-No it's nothing, Good night she said hesitated and then gave Lena a hug before she disappeared up the stairs. It was clearly not nothing Lena thought to herself as she followed Callie up the stairs. Lena thought about the out of character hug as she slipped into bed next to her wife. Yeah something was definitely up.
Then she woke up the next morning to find Callie gone, that was two weeks ago and still no word from her.
Lena you okay, Stef interrupted her thoughts.
- No not really, I'm worried about her. I want her to come home.
- Me too Honey, me too.
She found it strange that when she woke up from her reoccurring nightmare that Callie disappeared she was disappointed. Because even though Callie always vanished into thin air, for a little while she was there and Lena was her mom and this time she did everything right she made her feel safe from the first moment she saw her bruised face outside that juvenile detention facility. She loved her and she made Callie stay when she tried to walk away she didn't just stand there let her hug her good night and leave.
In Lena's dreams she fought for her to the end and even then she didn't give up. Lena is pretty sure she hasn't had a dream since she left that wasn't about her leaving. Sometime she dreams that Stef, and the kids went with her, she is a bit surprised to find that that dream isn't the worst one on the contrary because even though she is all alone Callie isn't and Stef can keep her safe, Jesus and Mariana will make her smile again and Brandon and Jude will make feel loved.
