Sudden Awakening

"AHH!" I screamed as I fell out of bed and flat onto my head. The impact left my limbs and ears quivering.

Ears?

But these couldn't be my ears! The were long, and black, and actually kind of cute… I stood up, and wagged them back and forth.

Hey! This was entertaining!

I had distracted myself so with the mysterious ears attached to my head – and I'd decided I could live with them – that I hadn't noticed how high up the bed seemed. Or that I now had hooves. I didn't even find the things around me were black and white – the darker things were black, the lighter white. I first noticed something had happened when I tried to stand on my hind legs.

"Huh?" I muttered when I had recovered from falling flat on my chest. Why was I not able to do this? It was one of the simplest of all tasks.

For a human.

The thought struck me like a lightning bolt. Something was very wrong. Very wrong, indeed. I should have been able to do this – I should have. Indeed is not a word I use often, you know. It is rather complex for a thirteen year-old like me. It is one with so much meaning, so much feeling placed into it. "This is puzzling," I muttered to myself. "How can I not still be a human? I was born, raised as a human."

I shook my head to clear it. How had this happened? What had I turned into? Too many questions… The first thing to do was to look into a mirror. I toddled – yes, toddled – out of my bedroom and into the hall. That was when I ran into Percy.

Let me tell you who Percy is, first. She's our family Meowth, much like any other Meowth, whom we got for Christmas from a friend in Kanto.

Her mouth was slightly ajar, her eyes big as saucers. "How… how did you get in here?" she said, her voice halfway between a hiss and a regular mew. The freaked-out Meowth was slowly backing away from me.

"Did you…" I'm sure my eyes were just as big as hers. "… did you just talk?"

"Well, of course I did," her voice now an annoyed hiss. "What do you think I am, you stupid Tepig, mute?"

Well, know I knew what I was. And I knew what she said every time I tripped over her as a human.

"Percy, it's me, Amber!"

Percy now looked totally freaked out. It would never be possible for her eyes to get any bigger – unless, of course, they popped out themselves. "Strange things have been happening in Unova recently," she muttered, "but this… this…"

I sighed. How could I make her understand?

Than it hit me.

"Hey, Percy, remember that cute Persian you crushed on last week? The one named Louis?" I stifled a giggle.

"How do you know about that?" she nearly screamed.

"Because I'm your owner. Anyway, he tastes nice with pancakes." I nearly laughed out loud.

"WHAT?" she shrieked. I ignored her.

"Persian Syrup. Mmm…"

Percy's eyes were huge and bloodshot. Never, in my lifetime, would I see them get any bigger. This was fun!

"Oh, don't worry. I forgot, that was the other Persian," I saw her relax a little – she was far from prepared for what came next. "Your boyfriend was the cream cheese on my bagel."
