"Once upon a time, I believe it was a Tuesday when I caught your eye
We caught on to something, I hold onto the night
You looked me in the eye and told me you loved me.
Were you just kidding? 'Cause it seems to me,
This thing is breaking down; we almost never speak.
I don't feel welcome anymore.
Baby, what happened?
Please tell me,
'Cause one second it was perfect;
Now you're halfway out the door."
Forever and Always, Taylor Swift
She hates Tuesdays. Tuesday was the day he walked into her life, the day he'd said goodbye, the day she finally cracked. And she sees him now, and he's justsocold and uncaring, and he doesn't even notice when she walks past him in the hallways. It's like he's completely turned around from the day he told her that he'd be there, forever and always.
But she guesses that forever isn't really as long as she thought, because where is he now?
He's with his precious girlfriend, her so-called best friend, who knew all this time and didn't even tell her. The one who encouraged him, "You can't keep hiding this from her; let her know." And the Draco Malfoy that Hermione Granger knew and loved disappeared and a monster took his place.
Like she should've seen it coming, "Did you think it'd last forever, Granger?" he'd sneered, Ginny draped across one shoulder.
"Only after you swore it would," she says, a single, silvery tear sliding down her cheek; he doesn't appear to even see (and just think, six months ago, he'd badgered her about what was wrong, just because she hadn't smiled much in Potions!) and it just angers her so much that she can't stand it anymore and before she knows it, she's moving, swinging her hand through the air.
It hits his nose, his perfect, beautiful nose with just a hint of freckles across it, and makes a dull thud. Angrier than words can portray, she turns on her heel and stalks away as the murmurs start.
He saw her vulnerable, and he used that against her. Now when Ron's got her corned in a deserted hallway, trying to snog her, he doesn't do a thing as she cries out to him for help. He leaves her and her hearts snaps and suddenly she's crying and letting it all out and screaming at him for leaving her so alone and scared. Screaming at him for having seen her afraid, months ago, and comforting her, and promising her forever and always and now blaming her for where their relationship went wrong. Blaming her when he was cheating and lying and leaving her, and she breaks down.
Weeks later, she's being harassed by McDougal, who's started the rumor that she's pregnant with Draco Malfoy's child, absolutely absurd and completely untrue, and minutes later speak of the devil, Draco appears. She begs him, pleads with him to speak with him, "He's ruining your reputation, too," and he just turns to her and says, "I can't make him do anything."
And that wasn't even what she'd asked him. But he doesn't care, and she remembers their conversation, forever ago.
"I can shut people out of my life so fast," he claimed, her head on his shoulder.
"Promise you'll never do that to me," she whispered.
"Promise."
But promises are made to be broken, just like rules…
and hearts, but unlike promises, hearts don't mend.
