Author's Notes: This very short piece was written four years ago. I stumbled upon it by accident a few days ago and decided to post it. This is not me coming back to the fandom.

Emma was busy unpacking her stuff in her room when she heard a knock at her door. She had left it ajar and when she turned around she saw Brennan standing in the doorframe.
"Brennan," she smiled, "Come on in."
He stepped into the room and took a look at what she was doing. "Unpacking, huh?"
"Yes, did you do it already?"
"No. But I don't have a lot of things to unpack, anyway."
"Well, neither do I."
Truth was, he was postponing it. Somehow he had a feeling that it would lead to a lot of changes in his life. And he wasn't sure he was ready for that.
"This is gonna be tough. Blending into this new surrounding."
She looked at him quizzically. "I'd have thought it would be the opposite for you."
"Well, I do adapt quickly, but I'm just a lonely kind of guy."
"Same here. It's just easier for me to deal with this mind thing when I'm alone..." She stopped and cast a quick glance at the elemental, suddenly realizing it wasn't the case when she was with him. "Most of the time." She couldn't understand how his feelings and emotions weren't an agression to her mind like everyone else's. Or maybe she just wasn't ready to admit that it felt natural, having him inside her head like he was a part of her – completing her. "But Adam said he could help me, and I trust him."
He looked at her. And I trust you. It was as simple as that. He had met her the day before, and he simply trusted her, instinctively and completely. Him, Brennan Mulwray, relying on someone he didn't know two days ago. The thought was almost laughable. Yet he wasn't even questioning it.
"So, you're good about staying here?"
She nodded and took the last item out of her bag, putting it on her bed.
"Yes. I do feel this is the right place to be. Are you?"
She thought she heard him say "As long as you are." He nodded, smiling, the reason he had come into her room in the first place coming back to his mind. "So, big boss's waiting for you in the lab. He wants to do some check-ups. And let me tell you, it includes scans and needles."
Emma chuckled at the feeling of mild horror she felt from him. "Thanks for the warning."
She headed for the door, and Brennan followed her, pausing to take a look at the book that was lying on her bed. Final Harvest by Emily Dickinson. He smiled. Maybe change would prove to be easier than he thought after all.
