Chapter 1
The day of the accident was the worst day of her life. As soon as she heard the news she collapsed in a heap on the floor sobbing. Memories flashed through her mind, Lucy laughing, a game of cricket, a wardrobe and a coronation, that one seemed the most vivid all the colours and the smells strange creatures were stood all around, she was sure one had the lower half a goat. Wait a coronation. Her brain said it was imaginary, just one of the games they had played when they were younger, when they had been sent away during the war. What was it called, Narnia that was it she thought then an image of a Lion flashed before her and she realised that the memory was real. She remembered everything: Narnia, Aslan, the witch, caspian, Mr tumnus the faun and being a queen of Narnia with her brothers and sister. She remembered her bow and her horn, presents from father christmas when they first went to Narnia, how they had seen a Aslan die and come back and how they had defeated the white gasped as the torrent of memories flooded over her but she knew it was useless. They were gone her whole family had been snatched from her forever, she regretted so much, her refusal to believe look where that had gotten her, all alone, the only one left.
60 years later and Susan was dying. She knew she was and she knew it was her time: she was stiff and old, her hair grey and her eyes weren't as sharp as they once was alone, she had no family and very few friends, since the accident she had drawn into herself ,barely talking to anyone, she had lived alone in her tiny house for many years, it was filled with books, reading was her only escape, she had written a series of books about Narnia under the pen name of C.S Lewis during the long tiresome years on her own and they were incredibly popular but no one knew they were real, no one would ever know . She took a deep breath and closed her tired eyes on this world for the last time. She was scared of course, no one knew what came after but she hoped it would involve meeting her family again.
She opened her eyes. She was surrounded by darkness. Suffocating darkness. But no, there was something approaching her, it was so far away it was impossible to tell what it was but it seemed to be emitting light. The thing got closer and closer and finally she could see what it was. A lion. A giant golden lion, glowing in the darkness.
She was petrified as the lion stood in front of her but she also felt strangely safe like she knew this lion wouldn't hurt her. Like she knew this lion from old.
"My child" the lion said in a gentle voice. Strangely Susan wasn't in the bit surprised that he could talk, his voice was rich and majestic like a king.
"Yes" she stammered her throat felt tight and constricted.
"Do you remember who I am" and she did, she had known him for years, in some ways she had always known him.
"Yes Aslan" she said finding it easier to talk now.
"Good, now walk with me" they walked through the darkness for a while in silence. They seemed to be walking in no particular direction, the lion walked with slow even paw steps, pacing beside Susan .Then Aslan spoke, his voice soft and gentle.
"My child you wanted to grow up too fast and you forgot about what really matters in life."
"I'm sorry Aslan"
"You have lost your family because you refused to believe."
"Yes Aslan, I know and I've never regretted anything more" tears stung her eyes and streamed down her cheeks, she wiped them off with the back of her hand.
"Don't worry my child all is forgotten and now I will give you the opportunity to make right."
"How, all the people who truly mattered to me are dead"
"As are you now, soon you will join them too and make amends"
