Click! Whirr…. The tape started to play.
News Reporter: "Hi I'm Anna, and I'm here at Grant Elementary school with little Lily Evans. Lily Evans 9 years old, was playing Hide and Seek with her friends yesterday, when all of a sudden, she appeared to vanish. Closer investigation revealed that she had not vanished, but had been turned invisible by some un-seen force. Miss. Evans, how do you think this happened?'
Lily Evans: "I don't know. One second I was there, and the next…. gone. It just… happened…. Like… Like Magic."
Magic… Like...Like Magic….
The words echoed in my head, as I turned off the tape. I had never said truer words.
Hello. My name is Lily Evans. I'm 16 years old, and I am a witch.
I go to Hogwarts School of witchcraft and wizardry. When I said those words years and years ago, I never dreamed how right I was. So on the day after my 11th birthday, I got the shock of my life when a man named Albus Dumbledore turned up on my doorstep, and handed me an acceptation letter to a magic school. I fainted. What would you have done?
After I woke up, I saw the man, or Professor Dumbledore headmaster of the school, explaining to my parents that I was a witch. At first I was doubtful, and suspicious. But after a while I began to feel excited. No, elated! After years of being called Freak, and Weirdo by the other kids in school, I finally had an explanation! I was a witch! I grinned. Then I saw Petunia, my elder sister, watching by the door. She looked scornful. My face fell. Petunia was my idol. She was the one who stood up for me at school. She played with me, helped me and was my best friend. But from the moment I left for Hogwarts, everything changed. She hated me. She despised magic. And now she was the one calling me freak, and worse names. It broke my heart, but that's the way it was. That's the way it is. But Hogwarts made up for it. Hogwarts was great, wonderful, amazing! I made new friends, (and enemies), new games, I learned how to make things fly, how to make potions, fly, and to turn pins into needles! I played Qudittch, a game played on broomsticks! But it came with a price. I lost my old school friends. I lost Petunia. I loved my parents dearly, but I found myself growing distant from them, as I couldn't talk to them about, magic, or the war going on. But that's ok. Because it's worth it. It's worth it when I'm at Hogwarts, playing, or studying with my friends/roommates Tessie, Laura, and Serena. Or learning a new potion, or patrolling corridors with my best friend Remus Lupin, who is a werewolf.
Of course, I still miss Petunia, or the closeness I once shared with my parents, but that's ok, because It's worth it.
There's a war going on in the wizarding world. Voldemort is on the rise, muggleborns are getting killed all the time, and people call me mudblood. But at Hogwarts, I can push it the back of my mind for a while. Because at Hogwarts…. It's ok.
My name is Lily Evans. I'm 16 years old, a Muggle-Born "Mudblood" witch. And Proud of it.
Sometimes I used to ask myself, If it was worth giving up so much to go to Hogwarts. Now I know.
It was so Worth It.
