Disclaimer: If I owned these characters, do you really think I would've given Donna that ending?
AN: So this is basically a "what if" fic. What if Jenny didn't die? What if she wasn't the one who saved the Doctor? What if Donna hadn't been given a crappy ending? And sorry the first chapter's really short, I really just wanted to post it so I have to continue it. Criticism is wanted! Review! Please…
It was beautiful.
The world forming right before his eyes. He wasn't just talking about the terraforming process; a sight that could make anyone weep, but the potential for a new start. He has a daughter now. He has so much to show her, so much to share. He looked over at his current companion. She'll help you, we both will. Donna had already helped him so much. His Donna, never asking anything in return, never compl - well - he wouldn't go that far. How could he ever repay her.
The Doctor smiled down at Jenny; he saw that wonder, that pure awe of the moment, painted across her features. It reminded him of a reason for not traveling alone. Witnessing that joy through another person was almost addicting. It makes him proud. And now he had two people to share the whole universe with. He knew Donna already loved the girl, and he was sure the TARDIS would take a shining to his daughter also. He felt a gentle hand on his shoulder, and found Donna at his side.
"You did it Spaceman," the praise in her voice made his hearts swell.
The Doctor regarded the scene with a light hearted shrug, "Yeah well… I do what I can."
Donna rolled her eyes and patted his cheek lightly, "Don't let it get to your head."
He registered the click of a gun in the back of his mind, but he didn't dwell on it in the slightest. He was too absorbed in the moment. How could anything distract him from this. It was only when he heard the gun go off, and he was pushed back with his daughter, did he snap back to the land of the living. He watched as if in slow motion; as the bullet hit Donna in the chest, and she crumbled to the ground in front of him.
