Teaser for Short - The Vicious King

Pairing: Marcus/Bella

Timeline: NM - Volterra, Italy

...

The sunlight beamed down on the plaza, creating a rainbow of reflections to bounce off Edward's granite skin…

Alice's scream did not register… neither did the breaking of her own heart.

A large, imposing figure appeared behind him, and wrapped a black cloak around the shimmering flesh. The vampiress sprinted across the fountain, blurring into nothing, materializing in front of the behemoth, noir vampire hidden in the shadow.

Bella waited… the ancient doors slowly closed, locking her out of the their world.

...

She shivered involuntarily, the cold air pricking at her, reminding her of her life… she was still alive…

Night descended, bringing with it the grotesque truth. Alice and Edward were gone… and she could not join them.

Her body moved, mechanically, trudging through the streets of Volterra. Small cafes were open, including more adult establishments. So lost was she that she did not realize the dangers slithering in the darkness.

Wintry fingers wrapped around her throat, slamming her into a brick wall. She knew the sweet scent, created to lure prey, lulling her into complacence.

Slick, frozen tongue traveled along her cheek, "Innocent… so innocent… luscious…" the voice danced across her eyelashes, suffocating her in opiate breaths.

"Do it," she whispered. Ignoring the tears, the ache in her skull, and the heart thundering in her chest.

A long nail trailed down her arm, digging into her, making her feel. Drops of her vital essence trickled down his hand. He raised it to his mouth, smearing it across his lower lip. "Tantalizing."

Her angel of death was beautiful; long, raven hair, crimson eyes, and a midnight cloak billowed on his back, giving the illusion of wings. She surrendered, resolved to die in a foreign land, a transparent tourist.

Then, the chilled arms engulfed her, "I have you."
