Two long years ago they came across this empty cabin. They climbed the hills through weeds and thorns. Trees that grew higher than the dying sunlight. It was just sitting here, waiting for something unknown. Something special and pure.
A dark haired boy lay on the side of a sloping hill. The sun's fading rays annoyed him to no end, prickling his eyelids to open, and he couldn't wait until they were completely gone over the side of the mountain. Though it didn't seem like it, it was late. Later than normal anyways. There were small stones and pebbles digging into his back and into his clothes, but he didn't stir. A soft sigh made him sit up stiffly and look around. His companion, a younger boy with golden blonde hair as long as his own, sat next to him with his arms wrapped around bended knees. The younger boy had his head turned; staring out into space, blue eyes unfocused.
"What are you thinking?" He questioned the blonde experimentally; pulling his hand through his hair as he did. The blonde didn't move for a second, just staring out over the valley below them. Then he turned to the raven and smiled. "Just about us." His answer was simple. The older boy gave a short nod and climbed to his feet. "Hmm?" The young blonde unfolded himself and stood to stand next to the raven. "Let's go." The dark haired one spoke again, in an almost commanding tone.
Twenty minutes later, they were standing on the edge of a cliff. The trees had started fading a while back before stopping behind them. The raven held his hand out at his side and the blonde stared at it before walking forward to grip it. He smiled again but the older boy turned away to look down at the side of the mountain; they had been just there earlier. He frowned a little and glanced down at the ground. It was hard packed dirt and it felt solid under his sneaker clad feet. He felt tugging on his hand and looked up to see the back of the older boy's head; long dark hair whipping around his neck and shoulders.
He followed after him like usual; he never asked where they were going; only asking if he would be there with him. The raven always lead, always. They had no problems with this set up; it just worked for them. The blonde watched the ground as they continued, weeds and starved grass were the only clues as to where they were heading. He looked up only to bump into the older boy leading.
The older boy stood still. He stared, glaring almost, at a small cabin with one tiny window and an equally sized door frame. The younger boy stepped out from behind him, letting go of his hand. "Are we going in?" He asked; his throat was dry from not having spoken since sunset. Sunset further down the mountain though. "Yes." The raven replied, stepping forward towards the cabin. The blonde hesitated to follow until the older boy turned back and nodded.
The younger boy walked after him as though they were connected by a string, a very unbreakable thread. The fading sunlight glanced off their backs as they neared the waiting cabin entrance. It was dark and curiosity drove the blonde to follow. Something else drove the raven as they entered the cabin.
The wooden floor wasn't the best, but they sat down anyway, leaning against the creaking walls. The older boy leaned over to light an old kerosene lamp, how did it get here? It somewhat brightened the one room; shadows still danced in the corners that the light couldn't reach. These shadows caught the blonde's eyes and he struggled to rip away from them and look at the raven. A warm hand clasped his own and he finally tore his eyes away; blue meeting crimson…
We can stay away and be together, on top of the world we'll be together.
