Veronica was sitting at her desk looking over the file of some adultery case. Husband thinks wife is cheating. He's probably right and Veronica would bet all the money she is making off this case that the wife is having an affair with the pool boy.

Veronica takes a breath. Bored rich trophy wives. Money is wasted on the rich.

Veronica was just about to call Logan and see if he wanted to go out for dinner that night when she heard someone come into the office. At first she thought it was Mac back with lunch but that would be way too soon. Must be new business. Maybe I can get Logan something nice for our anniversary.

"I'll be right with you," Veronica calls out, closing the file as she gets up from her desk.

"So, it's true then. You're Veronica Mars?" Veronica looks up and sees Charles Sinclair standing in the doorway looking angry.

"Mr. Sinclair, I-"

"Who hired you? My wife?"

"I can't talk about my cases with you, Mr. Sinclair but if-"

"Like hell you can." Mr. Sinclair pulls out his checkbook. "How much is this going to cost me?"

"Mr. Sinclair, you cannot buy this."

Mr. Sinclair just stares at Veronica. She stares right back at him, not backing down.

The sound of the front door opens.

"Boss, I'm back." Mac's voice can be heard through the office. Shit. Veronica's eyes go wide. She did not think Mac would be ready to face her bio-dad. She is praying that Mac will just stay at her desk until Mr. Sinclair leaves but when do things ever go the way they should.

Mac pokes her head into Veronica's office, "V, didn't you hear me? You usually come running when I'm back with food."

Mr. Sinclair turns around to see Mac. His eyes go wide, as do Mac's. They stand there staring at each other for a few seconds.

"I-I-I should go." Mr. Sinclair quickly hurries out of the office and lets the front door slam behind him.

"Mac, I'm so sorry. He just burst into my office. I tried to get rid of him but he wouldn't back down. Are you okay?"

Mac nods her head but looks in a daze. "What did he want?"

"To know who hired me."

Mac nods and goes back to her desk. For the next hour Mac just sat at her desk with a distracted look on her face, not getting any work done, so Veronica sent her home early for the day.

Mac walks out of the archway of the Mars Investigation office and onto the sidewalk when she noticed a Jaguar XF across the street with Charles Sinclair sitting inside staring at her.

Mac takes a breath and walks across the street. Mr. Sinclair rolls down the window about to say something when Mac cuts him off, "You can't be here."

"Did Miss Mars send you out here to get rid of me?"

"I'm not talking about her. You can't watch me. You don't have the right. I have parents who have loved me and supported me these past twenty nine years. They are good people who don't cheat on each other. You don't get to come out of nowhere and just watch me." Mac starts to walk across the street to her car.

"Cindy, I-"

"What don't you understand? I don't want you or need you. Leave me Veronica alone. It wasn't your wife that hired her, so don't worry your secret is safe. Have a nice life."

Mac storms off into her car and drives not really paying attention to where she is driving. When she winds up in front of her childhood home she realizes how long it's been since she stopped by to visit her parents.

After knocking on the front door, it opens with Natalie Mackenzie on the other side. "Cindy, what are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be at work?"

"It was a slow day at the office so, Veronica let me go home early. I figured I haven't stopped by in a few weeks. " She goes to hug her mother. She knew she made the right choice concerning Mr. Sinclair once she was in her mother's arms. "I missed you, Mom."

"I missed you too, Cindy. Why don't you come inside? I was just about to make cookies. Would you like to help?"

Mac nods and after closing the door, walk arm in arm to the kitchen. She thought to herself this is my home and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
