"Nezumi! Nezumi!"
The white haired boy came bursting into the small room, slamming the door behind him. Nezumi was curled up on couch with a book in his hand, his head resting again the arm and his legs crossed in front of him.
Little Hamlet was startled by Shion's sudden loud appearance and scrambled onto Nezumi's shoulder, squeaking loudly in protest. Cravat jumped from Shion's shirt pocket and ran to his companion mouse, chittering to him.
Nezumi looked up.
"What?"
"Inukashi says the world is going to end!"
"Is that so?" said Nezumi lightly, returning his gaze back to his book.
"Let me know when it happens," said Nezumi dryly, turning a page in his book.
"Nezumi!" insisted Shion frantically, pumping his arms hysterically.
"Geez, would you just calm down already? The world isn't going to end, you idiot."
"But-but-but I heard people talking about the date. Something about some ancient culture predicting the end of the world."
"Ooh… the Mayan calendar, wasn't it? Hasn't that already ended?"
"No! And it ends tomorrow!"
"Ah well, restart it then," said Nezumi dismissively.
"Eeh? Huh?"
"Restart the calendar. Easy enough. Then the world doesn't have to end. Yay us."
"But-but Inukashi says the moon is going to fall on us."
Nezumi raised an eyebrow, shutting his book. He sat up and tilted his head to the side, eyeing Shion carefully.
"Shion. Have you and Inukashi been playing video games again?"
"Eh? Uh… uh… well…"
Shaking his head, Nezumi gave out an exasperated sigh at the guilty expression on Shion's face.
"How many times have I told you, Shion? You just aren't cut out for those things."
"Yeah, but… Still, the world is going to end! We have to do something! Think about all the—"
"Okay, okay – tell you what. I'll save the world."
"Re—really, Nezumi?"
"What, you don't believe in me?"
"It's not that…"
"And I'll tell you how to do it, too."
"O-okay!"
"You listening?"
"Mhm!"
"Unplug the N64."
"E-eh?"
"Unplug the N64. There. World saved – yes, yes, no need to thank me."
Nezumi curled back into his position against the couch arm, reopening his book, looking satisfied and pleased with himself. There was a long moment of silence.
Then, "But-but Nezumi!"
"Would you shut up already?"
Author's Notes:
Because nothing says the end of the world like the moon falling on us. And if you still haven't gotten the hidden joke it refers to The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. ^.^
Just a little funny blurb I thought of while the craze of the end of the world was going on. I couldn't help but think, "Well, Shion and Nezumi live in the same year... What would be their reactions...? *big grin*
