THE END
The war was finally over.
We won.
Only it doesn't feel that way.
After the final devastating blow was delivered to the maniacal Lord Voldemort, there was silence.
It was an overwhelming silence.
It was an eerie silence.
I looked around.
Bodies were everywhere.
Death Eaters and Heroes of the Light.
Some were unrecognizable.
Others had simply been annihilated.
Few were left alive.
Fewer still were able to stand due to their wounds.
My family is gone.
I know it with certainty even though I didn't see their deaths.
I knew there was nothing I could do to bring them back.
At least they were all together and with their actual families.
At least they didn't have to see the devastation left behind.
And as I stand here, watching these survivors try to stabilize themselves and each other, I begin to wonder how it came to this.
How it came to be that thousands of innocent people were needlessly killed.
All because of one mindless tyrant who held a grudge against the world.
Bittersweet tears stream down my face now, thinking of all the lives which were lost.
The unnecessary deaths.
The unfortunate victims and their families left behind to fend for themselves.
I turn toward the Forbidden Forest and begin to walk into its depths before anyone can notice me.
And as I delve deeper into the dense forest I can only hope that my family will welcome me with open arms when I join them.
