Her body was thin but strong, her movement delicate, but fierce in approach.
Elsa had always been made for ice staking.
Until recently, she'd been just fine by herself. She'd spent the last 10 years conquering every intense move she could pull off. But the coach pulled her to the side one day, telling her something she had never wanted to hear.
"Elsa, your skating is beautiful, but I just don't see the emotion behind it. I should be weeping during your most passionate moves, but all I see are mechanics. Do you understand?"
Her heart sank. She tried to put the emotion in her skating, but it felt unnatural. Elsa was good at hiding her feelings, she didn't want them on display. She nodded to her coach.
"I think you should consider couple skating. It can really open up the possibilities inside of you. You're an excellent skater, Elsa. Don't waste it," the coach said, eyes meeting Elsa's cool blue ones.
She nodded again, her world swirling into chaos.
Every potential partner she was paired with failed miserably.
The boys couldn't keep up with her, didn't lift her correctly, and weren't focused enough for her taste. She needed someone serious, who would help her show emotion, not someone who would fumble and shut her up tighter.
It took three weeks, but she eventually found a partner.
Jack was slender, but strong. He moved in sync with her, and though he was immature off the ice, he was dead serious when he skated.
They decided that it would be mutually beneficial for them to become partners.
"No romantic feelings," Elsa said, eyes serious.
He paused for a second before nodding. "Agreed."
The practiced vigorously, and they argued often.
But somehow it was a perfect match.
"No, not like that!"
"Then how? You do it better, I dare you!"
"Fine!"
"Well you're just little miss perfect, aren't you?"
"Shut up!"
"Teach me the move!"
"You never learn!"
"Show me!"
Jack lost his mind slowly at first.
Sure Elsa was annoying, but he never understood why he pushed it so far.
He found himself admiring her skating for the beautiful fluid movement.
She almost looked robotic as she went into her daze.
Then he noticed things like her laugh as he fell, or the way her voice sounded when she was angry with him.
Yes, he slowly lost his mind.
He wasn't sure if he minded.
Elsa found herself daydreaming about her partner more than she liked to admit.
She thought of their routines, of ways to improve them.
Then she would get sidetracked and think of Jack's hands on her waist as he lifted her, of his hand grabbing hers before he would fall.
She thought of his stupid remarks and his attempts to have fun, even when she was in a mood for seriousness.
She found herself thinking of him much too often.
Their movement flowed gracefully, and they skated as if they were dancing.
This particular routine seemed more like a tango than their other routines.
Somehow the flow was even better.
They pushed each other to the max, drove each other over the edge.
But it worked.
Raw emotion is exposed and their coach cried silently as he watched his two favorite students.
The song ended and Jack and Elsa's lips met in a flustered hurry.
The coach smiled.
