The summer sun rose lazily above the few scatter clouds in the deep blue sky. The light reflecting off the old barn roof warming the old tin roof that would need replacing soon. A soft gentle breeze flows through the golden fields that would need plowed.

The ladybug flew from her perch on a lily flower as the old hound walked old barn door swung slightly in the wind ,horses neighing in the barn waiting to be let out into the pastures. Birds talking and flying from tree to tree.

Sat beside the farm was a farmhouse , just one floor with two bedrooms a giant kitchen filled with the latest appliances. In the kitchen of the farmhouse was a teenage girl with hazel eyes and long curly brown hair listening to old radio that sometimes didn't work and sometimes worked to well.

She was singing along with a old Alabama song that was playing as she was whisking eggs the bacon popping and the biscuits were baking when she heard the tell tell sign of him the loud rumbling of an old 1980 truck with an 44' lift kit that he saved for all summer.

She quickly made him a plate and a cup of coffee just the way he liked it ,black and little sugar .She shook her head at the cup having no idea how he could drink that .

The truck was coming closer so she wiped her hands off on the rag that stood in place of paper towels, she ran out of the kitchen as fast as she could without falling on the old hardwood floor. The swirls in the wood making each piece unique.

The truck was sitting where it belonged right beside hers by the time she got outside and there he was putting his army issued duffle bag on the ground reaching back into the truck to grab something.

"Merle! " She yelled as she flew off the porch running straight into his waiting arms.

"Oh Madeline I missed ya' so much so so much" He whispered into her hair hugging her to him , suddenly losing the strength to stand collapsing next to the truck its door moving slightly in the soft breeze.

She could only sob in respond in as reply as she tightened her arms as to remind herself that he was here , that he was safe and in her arms again . A soft summer breeze ruffled the hair of the one of the two lovers who wouldn't notice a summer storm if one were to happen. After all how many people say that lived happily ever after?
