Amaterasu, mother goddess of the sky, said of Ninigi,
"Now travel quickly, the islands of Yamato require your insight.
"Teach them all the skills so they sow and reap bounty in the time of rice.
"These are my children, sacred people of the light, and I wish them peace.
"I will make you great, your family prosperous, for the rest of time."
Ninigi agreed, and so traveled to Yamato, giving them knowledge.
He taught them to plant field and watery paddy, thresh and save the grains.
To engender him he also brought from heaven three sacred treasures:
Sword Kusanagi, the necklace of jade commas, and the bronze mirror.
"Now I will be great, my family prosperous, for the rest of time."
He reached Himuka, kingdom of Yamatsumi, who had two daughters.
So impressed was he, the great god Yamatsumi, that he offered both.
Ninigi refused, not caring for stone princess Iwanaga's hand,
But he married her, Konohanasakuya, the blossom princess.
She bore four children, strong sons to rule the kingdom of the rice.
First was Hidori, close to gods of ocean tides, elder fisherman.
Next the younger son, Hosuseri's birth, farmer like his sire.
Third came Hoori, great huntsman of the mountains, destined for legend.
Last was Hikari, beautiful, skilled, and mighty, but selfish of mind.
To each was given a province to suit their fate, and great gifts to match.
Together they grew, with tricks and play as brothers, overall with love.
Jealousy brought harm, and with lessons learned from such, each brother prospered.
But Hikari lagged, childish in his human ways, with no thought of fate;
He shared his vast land with the youkai of the earth and their courtesans,
Reveling in lust, lounging in their palaces, scorning destiny.
