Haunting nightmares
By Alasse Fefalas
Lisbon woke with a start. Panting, she looked around the darkness surrounding her wildly as she instinctively retrieved her gun from her bedside drawer. Silence and cold metal calmed her. She glanced at the clock - 2:44am. Sighing, she peeled the sweat-drenched covers off herself and hopped off the bed.
Gun tightly gripped in her hand, Lisbon walked out of her room and into the toilet. Flicking the light switch, she shielded her eyes against the sudden bright light. Turning on the tap, she placed her gun down on the counter and splashed water on her face. Grabbing the towel she always kept by her sink, she wiped her face, staring at the woman in the mirror.
How had she turned out like this? Sleepless nights, constant nightmares, never ending worry for Jane, the incessant fear that someone would come up from behind her and slice her body up like a ragdoll. Exhaustion was ever present on her face, and that night was no exception. The dark circles under her eyes and lightly sunken cheeks were in full glory under the white light of the bathroom.
Sighing, she shook her head and placed the towel back at its designated area. Grabbing her weapon, she flicked the light switch off and walked back to her bed. Staring at the damp blanket, she decided to throw it off the bed; She'd pick it up in the morning. Glancing at the clock, Lisbon took note of the time - 2:50am. Returning the gun back into its drawer, Lisbon laid back on her bed and closed her eyes.
Tall, dark figure. Faceless. Blood red floors. Glint of metal, knife. Gun, stuck. Body on floor, blonde. Jane.
Female voice. Her voice. "Jane, I'm scared."
Male voice. His voice. "I'm closing in on him."
Lisbon's eyes flew open. It was always the same nightmare over and over. The same faceless figure, the same knife, the same person on the floor. The same useless feeling - powerlessness.
Lisbon glanced at the clock and sighed. 3:00am. It was a going to be another long night.
A/N: This was something I've been wanting to write for a long time now. A purely Lisbon point of view of how the whole Red John case has been affecting her so far. I hope you enjoyed reading it. Reviews are much appreciated! Thanks for reading!
