You clutched the aging leather tome to your chest as you cautiously paced down the juncture to your bedroom and the study, you were apprehensive about informing your butler of the matter you have gone religious on him - knowing specifically that he had advised you against the matter indifferently, with a pleasant smile about his expression, no less.
Though, you have never been for certain why the man detested religion to begin with. It was not like you were doing anything wrong to believe in angels and demons, let alone God. Sebastian would have your head as apposed to you acquiring a Bible.
Ah, crap.
"My lady, what is that thing you are in possession of?"
Speaking of the devil.
"A-ah! Sebastian! This is...err, it's my j-journal!"
The pale butler looked anything but fooled.
"I see."
"Now, if you will excuse me, I must retire to my bedroom. GOOD-NIGHT."
Quick as a flash, you were behind your door inside your room, panting heavily as your heart thumped verbosely within your chest. Oh Lord, did he take notice to the cover? The cover, that you had recently recalled, that had a cross and the words; "Holy Bible", printed on the front?
Stupid! Stupid!
"My, my. I would not believe my lady to be religious, no?" his voice drifted from behind your door in the hallway, the word "religious" sounded sour on his tongue.
"R-religious! Ha! I pity the poor fool that would ever worship a God of any kind!" a false-mirthful laughter bubbled passed your lips. You were sure Sebastian would never see passed your rues.
"If you would allow me to do so, may I come in?"
You squeezed your eyes shut.
"N-no, it's perfectly alright, Sebastian. You may leave."
"But, miss-"
"YOU MAY LEAVE."
A brief pause.
"...yes, my lady."
The butler had, indeed, turned to leave. However, he would be visiting you within the midnight hour to see if his suspicions were confirmed, or if he needed to...convert the dear miss for her sins against her native religion.
He sadistic grin pulled his lips as he disappeared into the darkness of the corridor with the fire's light extinguished.
/EXTENDED ENDING/
You awoke to a frightening nightmare at approximately twelve o' clock, midnight.
Demons were plaguing your mind at night more often, claiming to be punishing you for your sins against your true religion, your real God.
It was strange, given the fact the demons sounded very much like Sebastian, your butler.
And that they were doing anything but hurting you.
Oh, but it was a very different kind of torture.
"A-ah...! Oh, Sebastian...!"
A grin.
Yes, it was a very rancorous punishment, but you did need to pay for your sins, in full.
