Deep In My Heart - Part 1 "Letter of Fate"

Sora Takenouchi gazed out the frozen window pane of her tiny home, in Brooklyn, New York. Leaving Japan she thought she could never do, but did. Silently she pressed her fingers onto the cool, condensed surface of the window as a tear ran down her face. How she missed Japan, and all her friends. She clutched a letter in her other hand tightly against her heart, shaking slightly. Her nut-brown eyes had clouded over and her pretty, brown-tasselled head was bowed. It was a letter from Japan.

Dearest Sora-chan,

How goes life in America? Things are good on the other side of the world. Yamato and Mimi are engaged. Isn't that wonderful? They have an apartment together in Osaka already. The wedding is next August. We all really hope you can come! Hikari and Takeru are going to the prom together this spring. It's so cute to see them together! Even though they are eighteen, I can't help but think of them as babies still.

I have some big news, Sora. Yolei and I are.. Well.. How does one put this? We're getting hitched, Sora-chan!! Married! Oh, I couldn't keep it in any longer! I'm positively ecstatic with joy!! Our parents thought it would be a good match, and sinceshe's going to my university next fall, it makes sense that we'll marry and get a home together... don't you think? Oh, please say so. I'd hate to not have your approval. You're my best friend, and nobody has been so kind to me.

Daisuke isn't taking this so well. He's jealous of Yamato and I, plus the fact that Koushiro and Cody have announced that they're gay with each other... Well, it's a little much for his eighteen-year-old mind to handle. I'm so glad Yolei is mature for her age... Some people think she's too young to marry a twenty-year-old doctor-wannabe like me.

Mimi says to tell you she'll be back in New York in two weeks. She can't wait to see you and Jyou. I was actually thinking... Jyou is single.. How come you guys never hit it off? You'd make a cute couple. Well, I have to go Sora-chan!! Write soon!

Love from,

Taichi-kun Yagami

Her eyes brimmed with fresh tears at Taichi's love advice. Oh, why couldn't he see? The only one for her was him, not Jyou! What was there to Yolei? Different emotions swirled through her head. Anger, love, hate, depression, confusion...

Her brow furrowed. She couldn't let her obsession with Tai take over her life. She had come to Brooklyn to become an author, and she would achieve her goal. Taichi was taken now, so she would just have to move on and forget about Japan, him, and everything romantic.

She stood up quickly, as if the window was poison. She wouldn't write back. Never! Taichi was gone. Sora glanced at the letter in her hands, as if accusing it for something. But, instead of throwing it away, she just locked it up in her trunk.

"Gone," she repeatedly with finality. Then she grabbed her coat and resume, went off to find a job and start a new life.
