The Journey of Sadness
On a small island lived a very sad and depressed Mock turtle. He didn't have a name, well, no one really knew his name so every one called him the Mock Turtle. He had the head, legs, hooves, and tail of a bull and his torso was that of a turtle along with flippers in place of hands and arms. He was always sitting on this flat, tall rock crying about how awful and sad his life was, at first everyone gathered around to hear his story, but not long after they got bored and agitated with him and continued on with their day-to-day lives on the small island.
One day an American Short-hair cat, Ember, voyaged to the small island to hear the Mock Turtle's story. When his boat docked on the island Ember was greeted by a Falcon. "I will show you the way to the Mock Turtle so you can hear his story," said the Falcon in an excited voice. As they neared the rock where he sat upon and cried Ember was wondering why the Mock Turtle was crying, so they went up to him. The Falcon said to the Mock Turtle, "This 'ere cat wants to 'ear your story." "Alright sit down young cat and I will tell you my story," the Mock Turtle said while trying to hold back tears.
"When I was young I went to a school under the sea. And my teacher. H-he taught me, the Mock Turtle started crying and a few minutes later continued, "my vocabulary and math and such and such." Ember interrupted, "is your story going to become sad?"
"Shh!" Falcon gestured to Ember and Mock Turtle wiped his tears away and continued. "He taught me to count stars a-and how to walk on land..."
"Is he dead?" Ember asked.
"oh no, no! He is very much alive!" Replied the Mock Turtle with a very small grin.
After watching him cry for a few minutes with the Falcon saying, "oh how sad his story is!" Over and over, Ember sighed and thought through the story on how his story is so sad. Finally, he said, "Egads! You pitiful fools!" he exclaimed. Ember then went aboard his ship and left the Mock Turtle and Falcon to cry.
