Wanting to Want

A really short JJ oneshot.

Fluff :)

Wanting to want. She told Chris she wanted to want him, but did she really? That was hours ago, and in the end the only option was an amicable divorce.

They had talked for a while about them not being able to work out, but her mind wasn't on any of that. It was focusing on that one sentence she had said, "You're the man I want to want."

When she thought about it, she didn't want to want Chris. She wanted to want the idea of what Chris should be. She wanted to want Dream Chris, Rory's dad, this great guy she had loved for many years, a responsible, considerate, and all around caring guy. The reality Chris, however, was only Rory's biological father, a guy she thought she loved when she was young, a careless, polite-only-to-important people, not at all thoughtful guy.

Somehow, she couldn't even bring herself to want dream Chris, only the characteristics Dream Chris had.

"Why?" she asked herself.

After thinking for a few seconds, she realized Dream Chris was Luke. All the qualities Dream Chris had, Luke had. When she pictured dream Chris in her head, the only image that came was Luke. Luke was Rory's dad. He was always taking care of Rory and supporting her. She had known she had loved Luke for years, a lot longer than she cared to admit (Why should she ever tell the people of Stars Hollow they were right all along?). Luke was responsible. He was always there when he said he would be. He was considerate too, always being polite to her parents (Even when she told him not to). Luke was the most caring person she knew.

What was she going to do now? Now that she was finally free of Chris, she wanted to get back on track with Luke as quickly as possible. But would he take her back?

She was never one for wondering, so she got into her car and drove there as quickly as she could. The diner was closed, so she grabbed the key from above the door and walked in and up to Luke's apartment. The closer she got, the faster her heart went.

She knocked slowly, and after a few seconds, Luke opened the door to the last person he expected to see. She said only three words, but the most important words in the English language.

"I love you," she said quietly, almost in a whisper.

Luke just leaned over, pulled her into a tight hug and responded, "I love you, too."
