Caught at the Scene of the Crime
Roque – it was Roque's fault, Roque started it. Jensen knew that while that was all very true, he had to work out how not to sound like a six year old trying to blame something on the kid sat next to him in lunch hall when explaining it to Clay. Roque spoilt my new t-shirt, on purpose. He spilt oil on it and he knows damn well that shit doesn't come out. Roque fleeced me at cards . . . again . . . and I know he's cheating but I can't figure out how and seriously I need to win back my combat boots, this month's paycheck and my night vision goggles. Roque gave me CAPE again and this time I didn't actually do anything, I just sniggered a tiny bit when he tripped over nothing as we crossed the parade ground. . . It wasn't my fault.
Clay's face was grim as he looked at the youngest member of his team who was standing looking awkward and unusually silent. "Care to explain why I've just found you putting itching powder in Roque's Dress Blues?"
Jensen looked uncomfortable before answering, "You don't want to hear it."
"You're probably right, but tell me anyway."
"Because I need to buy another new t-shirt because he got oil on my first new one, because I wanted my combat boots, paycheck and night vision goggles back and I'm only going to keep losing if I play him at cards again and because I can't give him CAPE."
"And itching powder fixes all of that how?"
"It makes me feel better."
Clay sighed, "You pay to get them cleaned and then you see me and I will deal with the rest. Now get out of my sight before I take more drastic action. And you had better fix it quickly, Jensen!"
