Darkness has only two hours ago smothered the land, awakening the night crawlers and putting to rest the day demons. One night crawler awakens, a vampire at that. The ruler of the night, the servant to the moon! Not even the werewolf can compare. After all, what could more frightening then something that lives among the Shadows? More gruesome then a creature that lives on the blood of others? The vampire gets up and stretches. It's whiskers sway in the chilling breeze of it's territory. It is a cat. She smiles as she picks up the scent of her next meal. Her next victim.
There are few who deny
At what I do I am the best,
For my talents are renowned
Far and wide.
With graceful ease and cunning slyness, she hops into her friends, the nightly shadows who are different from those in the day. For these hide the monsters. Like the Cat.
When it comes to surprises
In the moonlit night,
I excel without ever
Even trying.
She swims with them and they follow her, allowing her to command them and hide her from any eyes or even nose. Lurking on the edge of a building she climbs, higher and higher up the dimly lit house.
With the slightest little effort
Of my ghostlike charms,
I have seen grown men
Give out a shriek.
Without a sound she, encouraged by the even more silent night, reaches the roof. A smile crosses her face as she sees her prey. She pounces, fangs bared, but misses. What's this? A trick! Or a trap? A day shadow awake now? For what else would dare fool a vampire, this Mistress of the Dark? What she pounced at was no rat but a shadow in disguise! In denial perhaps? No. Why be a rat? With a cat near by...She'd have to teach it a lesson.
With a wave of my hand
And a well-placed moan,
I have swept the very bravest
Off their feet.
With yet another pounce, she fails again. But this times with matters worse. The shadow had pulled an old trick on her, like a bullfighter pulling away the red scarf at the last moment to reveal a wall, which the bull regrettably hits. But instead of a wall, she fell off the house. Off her territory. Into a realm of light. The horrible light of failure.
But what's this? No crack? No nauseating sounds of cracking bones? She had been.......caught. But no!! How could it be?! She needed no help, no help! But what's this? That smell. Smell of the deceased. Oh, it was okay. A fellow had come to the rescue! How noble, and especially to save a vampire.
"Aww.....what were you doing up there kitty?"
That......was..........no......voice......of........evil. CRACK!! Her rib cage snapped. Perhaps she had fallen asleep whilst falling? No, that was stupid. Really stupid.
"Not another cat, Lenore. You know that it'll just--"
"Oh be quiet! I'll take really good care of this kitty."
"Yeah, uh-huh. And I'm bound to magically turn back into a vampire again by eating a raspberry muffin."
"C'mon little kitty-cat. I'm going to give you a bath."

And you wonder why my creations hate me so. :p
