Since Jonas started to realize that they needed help he decided to follow that echo. Although he started to hesitate about following an echo that he isn't sure he heard. Until he heard the singing again, he heard people sing, "We are a family like a giant tree." Once he heard that echo again he knew that it was real. Therefore, he decided to follow the echo. As he walked closer the louder the song became. For example he continued to hear, "growing stronger, growing wiser."
Jonas and Gabriel walk through the cold, frigid winter. As they do Jonas whispers to Gabriel, "Were almost there Gabe!" Jonas was happy to see that there's was finally a community. Especially when he was about to give up. There was only one problem as Jonas whispered to Gabe he started realize that he couldn't feel Gabe's breathing. As he couldn't his breathing Jonas continuously screamed in a whimper tone Gabe's name, "Gabe! Gabe! Gabe!"
Gabriel continuously didn't respond Jonas soon knew that the memories that he gave Gabe were gone, but there was the most important thing that was gone. One of the reasons why he ran away was gone. That reason was Gabriel. Jonas wasn't frustrated, he was more upset than anything actually. Although he wasn't ready, he knew Gabe's death would happen.
Jonas decided to find a nice tree. Once he found a beautiful tree he wrapped Gabe's blanket and his tunic around Gabe nice and snug. Once he wrapped Gabe he bent down and kissed Gabe on the head. Then, before he left he just stopped and looked at him. Then as he looked at him he thought in his head, "How could I have been foolish enough to think I could take care of a newborn." That's when Jonas finally did something that he was coming close to doing in the first place. He cried his heart out.
He pulled himself together and went to continue the journey. Once he got there he was pretty sure his powers were gone. He thought that because everything he saw was colorful. Jonas saw that everybody was dressed differently and did different things. Most of all he saw something on the road that he never saw before. He saw big vehicles (cars).
Jonas tapped someone's shoulder and asked them, "excuse me what is the color of my shirt?" The stranger said, "It's a grayish bluish color." That's when he was shocked and then asked, "You can see color?" The stranger answered, "Pretty much and I'm pretty sure everyone in this town can see." He couldn't believe what he was hearing.
He didn't even think this kind of world exist in life. A world where people can actually see colors for their selves. Then he asked the stranger, "How old are you? The stranger answered, "I'm 12 years old." That's when he was really blown away. Just the fact that people can remember how old they are is just unbelievable.
He saw that everything that would be his, the giver, or the elders jobs to do was done by the people their selves. For example people had their own ages and their own stuff. Most of all everything was different. He liked that too. He believed that he could actually fit in here. Although the girl Jonas was talking to notice how bad of a condition Jonas was in and decided to take him to her home.
