The Masquerade of Love

Love wears many different masks

Fooling even the most clever

Love leaves geniuses dumbfounded

Leaves them gasping for answers

"Why, oh, why!"

They say, plead before us all

Yes, Love holds many masks to its haunting face

Mask one

One of happiness, of hope

Of freedom and compassion

You feel soft, vurnable to all around you

You gaze at the sun differently

You smell the flowers with special care

You even touch simple objects with different skin

Mask Two

Sorrow, misery

Pain, suffering

It masquerades around

Claiming perfection, happiness

But in all reality it is certain death

Your heart physically aches

And all things lovely make you ill

Heart symbols burn your flesh

The sun kills your soul

And flowers disgust you

Mask Three

The one of deception

The one that teases you with completeness

With the fact that your life is finally put together

When in fact it is crumbling at your very feet

It is slowly dying,

Face growing cold, distant

Begging for your help

Pleading for mercy

At your feet

You can't help yourself

You can't save yourself from the pain

The suffering is mandatory

The breaking of the heart almost impossible to avoid

You must accept it

Welcome it

You must run to it with open arms

Hold it

Caress it

Kiss it

For when it is gone,

You will long for it all the more
