After a long and tiring day of school, and after idol practice had ended, Rin threw herself onto her bed, face-first. The first thing on her afterschool checklist was probably messing around playing video games or having a nap. Breathing in her sheets, she rolled sideways, right up to her calendar. April 18th.
Huh. It felt strange. Was she forgetting something important…?
However, feelings like that would soon pass - Rin only thought of them as a hinderance. She shrugged it off simply, and carried on her day as usual.
Rin woke up with a start, turning off the alarm on her phone. Again, that feeling from yesterday…
She slapped on her uniform, and headed out.
It seemed as if the forgetfulness was stalking her from behind, just waiting to pounce on her as soon as the moment or chance presented itself…
Rin yelped and turned around, only to see Nishikino Maki, her dear friend. Although, it looked like she didn't seem to think of Rin as that.
"Eh? Was it something to do with Maki-chan…?"
Maki glared at Rin straight in the eyes, with dismay and some degree of disappointment.
"Was what something to do with me? I have no idea what you're talking about." Maki snapped, crossing her arms firmly. "Keep your thoughts to yourself!"
She brushed past Rin swiftly, obviously upsetted by Rin.
"Rin has no idea what you're talking about either, nya…" Rin said pointlessly, as the scarlet princess had already reached the school gates and escaped into the building.
"It's finally lunch time, nya!"
Rin stretched her arms towards the ceiling, blocking the view of a particular girl.
"Hey, Maki-chan, let's eat lunch together-"
Maki had already made her way out of the classroom, bringing her bag with her. It looks like she didn't intend on coming back…
Hanayo came over to Rin's desk, taking a chair from an adjacent desk, and sitting across from Rin. The cat-like girl slumped over in defeat, sighing heavily.
"Kayochin, what's up with Maki-chan today?" she asked, her voice slightly muffled by her sleeves.
"Well…" Hanayo tapped a finger on her chin, while opening her lunchbox. "It's April 19th, isn't it?"
"Yeah…" Rin huffed. "Wait… n-n-NYA?!"
"It's Maki-chan's birthday. Did you forget?" Hanayo questioned. her eyes widening with disbelief.
"I did! Oh, what should I do, nya…?! I didn't buy her anything!"
Shutting her eyes in thought, Hanayo took a bite out of her rice ball. Rin began wolfing down her lunch in stress.
"Maki's favourite food is… tomatoes, right?"
"That'sh right! Maybe Rin can buy her a tomato!" Rin suggested, still with a bit of rice in her mouth.
Having finished all of her food, she darted out of the classroom.
"A single tomato?"
The school bell rang, signalling the end of school. Rin caught up to Maki, who had been speedwalking, with some sort of firmness with each step. Silently, Rin tapped Maki's shoulder.
"...Maki-chan?"
Maki stopped walking abruptly, and she looked down at Rin with a frown.
"U-um, happy birthday, nya!"
Rin presented a tomato to Maki.
"Rin…"
"Ehehe… nya…"
Maki snatched the tomato out of Rin's hands.
"I can't believe you forgot about my birthday." she said, eating the tomato.
"Well, Rin knows you love tomatoes!"
Maki turned away and mumbled something under her breath.
"What's that, nya?"
"N-nothing."
Rin grinned and hugged Maki tightly.
"You forgive Rin, right?"
