"You were wrong, you know."
"Emma?" Snow startles, looking up from her cup of tea. It's not hot chocolate, but it's all she was able to find in the galley that might calm her nerves besides alcohol. Not that she hadn't considered the rum, but she also wants her wits about her on this ship. Tense doesn't even begin to describe the atmosphere.
"You were wrong, about not having had a lot of chances to be parents."
"How so?" she frowns, watching Emma join her on the steps leading to the quarterdeck.
For a moment the blonde hesitates, but then she swallows hard and starts to speak.
"Everything you've done for me since the curse broke, every encouraging word, every hug, every bowl of cereal… It's not that I don't appreciate grand gestures like saving my baby butt or taking out an ogre with a bow and arrow, but those little things, they mean the most. You and Dav- You and Dad are my parents because you don't even realize you're doing them. And that is why you were wrong."
How her heart can feel like it's breaking and soaring at the same time is beyond Snow, but she feels it all the same as she sets down her tea and meets her daughter halfway for a hug.
"I stand corrected," she nods, pressing a kiss to Emma's hair, "but never have I been happier to be wrong."
