Unwashable Stains
There were many things in Severus Snape's life, several tiny things, he would never forget. There were the memories of Lily looking at him, smiling, hugging him, and pulling him along into her next childish adventure. The memories of Lily growing up and dragging him off to the library to study rather than play. The time she had misaimed a hug and kissed him instead, only to pull away blushing and talking in whispers for a week. These were definitely things to cherish.
There were also the times which were not so lovely, such as the time he had called her "mudblood" and destroyed their friendship. When his profuse apologies had been turned down just as harshly as James Potter when he'd asked her out. Watching Potter show Lily how to properly cast a spell in Transfiguration, her worst subject. Witnessing a blossoming friendship between the two which frustratingly led to their relationship and marriage. Sneaking in behind the bush at her wedding, hoping she might say "no" at the alter. Hearing the news she had given birth to Potter's child. These memories were ones he wished he could cast into the fire and forget forever, but they would not burn.
Severus stared down at his dark mark. This was something from his past he could never erase as well. Throwing himself into the dark arts in hope to forget Lily, but only making himself feel worse. Trying to save her life by working on the inside, but failing and promising to protect her son instead. Her son- the boy who was just as much a pain as Potter was, but with Lily's temper, cheek, and green eyes. It was almost as if the boy was taunting him, did they not know what they were putting him through? Of course they didn't. They wouldn't understand when he looked at Harry and his two friends he could see Lily. The school obsessed muggleborn still anxious for a little adventure. The red hair, her green eyes and most of her personality. How he could also see they created Potter, and it was like re-watching his childhood over again in a new terrible, torturous way.
Severus cringed away and pulled the sleeve back down over the coiling snake. He must save her son for a later time, when he understood everything. Letting out a low growl and attempting to throw away all the pain he had just put himself through, Severus grabbed his cloak and stormed from the headmasters-his- office. Albus made to say something, but Severus had shut the door roughly before he had the chance.
There were many things in Severus Snape's life which were indeed unwashable stains, almost everyone painful.
