After The Endgame (HOME):
She couldn't stand it. She wished it was all a nightmare, a bad dream and he would be there to wake her up and tell her it was all okay and that he was there. But it wasn't a dream, it was reality. Wally was gone, her soul mate, the only one who understood her like nobody else could besides a few others, but he was headstrong to her stubborn. They could fight about everything and nothing all at the same time. They were each other's spitfires, but Artemis lost him. Once Barry told her, she didn't want to believe anything, but he wasn't there.
She was scared as she searched for Wally, finding no sign of him. Finding out the truth broke her deeply inside, tearing her heart slowly and painfully apart like a sort of sick torture. As she passed through the living room to their shared room but now only hers, she threw everything to the side and brought out one of his t-shirts. His cologne she could still smell, minty and fresh like his aftershave and that all but made her fall into hard sobs, her whole body shook violently as each sound escaped past her lips brought only mournful pain and helplessness. Wally, why did you leave me? As she asked that silent question, Artemis already knew the answer.
Wally did it to save the Earth and everybody on it, especially her. But would anyone blame her that she wanted Wally back, wishing he didn't risk his life like that, Artemis knew that was stupid and selfish but she couldn't help but think what she could of done to prevent losing Wally forever. Artemis thought about what he would say. Probably crank a terrible joke to lighten the mood. She thought wryly. A ghost of a smile appeared on her lips as she remembered the kiss right in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and every second, minute, hour, day, week, month, that all combined into the years they spent together, leading back to when she first joined the Team. Artemis remembered the day they first met, she remembered how they couldn't stand each other; but then later on couldn't stand being away from each other.
Every moment shared. Even when things were getting tough and stressful, they stuck together because they were their own team. They had each other's backs, cared for each other, fought with each other, had fun with each other, and the most possibly true thing was and still is… Was that they fell in love with each other, spitfires, soul mates. And Artemis wanted that to live on forever, because she knew Wally was still with her. He was alive in her heart. And when the time came for her to go, she'll be going back to the place where she belonged. In Wally's arms; Artemis' grey eyes looked out the window watching the stars. A small smile curved her lips, as a familiar teasing voice that belonged to the hard headed, childish, caring, brave, strong-willed and spirited red- haired boy that was the love of her life whispered to her.
"I love you, babe. I'll be waiting for you Artemis."
"I love you, too, Wally." She whispered as she shut her eyes and fell asleep and opened her eyes in her dream world to meet familiar sparkling green eyes.
"Told you; I'll be waiting babe." Wally murmured to her softly, Artemis gazed into his eyes and fell into his arms as he held her just as tightly as she held him.
"I know, I know…" Artemis murmured back.
