Star Gazer

I was up in the sky right before Celestia's sun set over the horizon, and Luna raised her beautiful moon to replace it. My job as an alicorn was to position the stars in just the right way to complement the moon's splendor. As I gently nudged the last star into place the moon came up, it's bright light silhouetting me against its surface. As I watched it rise I observed the sight and took in every moment of it. I decided it was a special night and was going to fling some stars across the sky for some lucky pony to gaze upon. Gently and quietly I floated down about half way to the ground when I noticed a small filly running across the dark grass. As I watched her trot she slowed down at the cliffs edge gazing up into the night sky. She tromped her hoof on the ground in frustration, placing some objects down beside her. From a bag she pulled a blanket and a telescope with its stand. She laid upon the grass the blanket covering her bottom half, and looked through the scope with interest, pausing once in a while to write in a small journal. As she looked she said the names of stars to herself "Starswirl's star, Luna's trail, Celestia's star, Twilight's ora…" She named the smallest stars and largest stars recording each one on a page of the journal. "What was that last one?" She said out loud tapping her hoof against her chin. "Harmony's constellation." I said setting myself next to her "Princess Twilight what are you doing here?" I gently smiled at the filly giving a truthful response "I am enjoying the night just like you." I said looking up at the sky. "What is your name?" I asked the filly crossing one hoof over the other "Starshine, your highness." I sweetened my expression a bit "Well Starshine have you ever seen the moon rise?" I questioned turning to her "No, I try but I'm always too late to see it." She said looking towards the ground "How about a shooting star?" She turned and looked at me with big eyes "No, I have never seen one of those either but I have a page in my star journal about them." She said excitedly pushing the small book towards me with her nose. I lifted it with my magic and flipped through the pages of different stars and their stories. I smiled and placed the book down with the shooting star page open. "Starshine look through your scope to right below the moon." I said nudging the filly towards the scope "Ok, what am I looking for?" Starshine asked still gazing through the scope at the spot "You'll see." I said dragging a star from its spot, as soon as I let it go a white tail formed behind it. "Princess, I see it, I see it, it's a shooting star." Starshine exclaimed following it across the sky eagerly. Once it passed she turned and wrote her observations on the empty shooting star page. As I watched, her flank started to glow turning into a beautiful star with a blazing white tail. I couldn't help but smile at the sight, of a filly getting her cutie mark "Starshine look a new star appeared." I said getting her attention "Really where" she asked looking up in the sky "No, No, there." I said pointing a hoof towards the new formed cutie mark. Starshine turned her head to where I was pointing and gasped "Princess, my cutie mark…" I stifled a giggle and regained myself. Clearing my throat I spoke in my best royal voice "Starshine as your fellow alicorn, and princess of stars I hereby appoint you to my personal star gazer observer of stars and lover of the night." Starshine was smiling ear to ear as I pulled a star from the sky and wrapped it up in the blanket. I softened my tone and spoke again "Whenever you have something new to report just look into this and I will answer." I explained pointing at the blanket. Before she left she gave me a small hug "Thank you for everything." She said before running home. I felt happy inside and took off into the starry sky for some rest.
