Prelogue

'How did I get here?' He thought to himself, his thoughts were hazy as his brain pounded inside his skull. "I must have hit my head." He quickly reasoned. He looked about his surroundings, only moon lit trees and bushes meeting his gaze. The trees towering over head made him feel suddenly small and alone... panicked. He clenched his eyes shut struggling to remember his last moments. Horse manure. He remembered the scent of fresh horse manure as he mucked the paddock of his family horse. No where near the unfamiliar wooded location he presently found himself. After inhaling a few sharp breaths, he swallowed.

Try as he might, he could not bring himself to recall how he had gotten here. Another panicked and frightening thought struck him, and he speedily tried to recall his name. 'Jake...' Pleased with being able to drum up his first name so quickly, he immediately sought out his last. 'Jake Haughrt' He almost sighed with relief but the reality of the situation caught him again. Jake was alone in unfamiliar woods, with no ability to recollect how he had gotten here. His wife and daughter would be worried... terrified even, that their beloved Husband and Father had not come home after a simple chore. It had still been daylight the last he remembered... at least that was something. Still shaking, but with slightly regained composure, Jake took a deep breath and another look around himself. The trees weren't only unfamiliar, he was almost certain trees such as the ones in this forest weren't indigenous to Ontario.

A dying leaf trembled above Jake as the winter wind whistled past it, causing it to shake and quiver. He looked up at it momentarily, noting how he felt much alike they felt.

"Where am I?"

AUTHOR'S NOTE: I'll be editing this more later to clean it up a bit, so remember this is a work in progress. That being said, R&R and there will be more chapters to come.

There will eventually be some crossovers involved, but not until MUCH later. Possibly not even till the sequel. Much love and R&R!
