Sirius felt his tears fall as he saw the four figures laugh. He really didn't want to cry, he really didn't. But it was so hard not to when he saw his carefree self dance with James like he used to with Remus shaking his head in amusement and eating Chocolate Frogs all the while and Peter wasn't evil yet as he watched and clapped.
Sirius heard the door creak and looked up. He saw a shabby figure draped in ripped clothes and scars along his face. It was his best mate; Remus Lupin.
He grinned. "Moony," he said, "What are you doing here? You know, besides disturbing my privacy." He hoped Remus would accept the joke and not notice the tear strained cheeks or the slight quiver in his voice.
He did.
Remus sighed as he plopped down beside the dog animagus. "I'm here to check on you Padfoot. You know what day it is today."
"Yeah? And what if I want to be in peace while I grieve for my best mate?"
Remus quirked an eyebrow. "You have really quick mood swings mate. ("Gee thanks, Moony.") Besides, he's my best mate too you know."
Sirius sighed. "All right. I'm going to let this all out. And don't stop me, Moony. I want to vent this out."
"Okay. Go on."
"I hate this Moony. I hate this time. I hate Voldemort. I hate Peter. I want the old times back. When we were together and thought we ruled every god damn thing in the universe. I want James back. I want the old Peter back. I want the old us back. I want the Marauders back."
Sirius let a few tears escape. And when he did he couldn't stop. Remus hugged him for comfort.
"And you know what I really hate, Moony?" came Sirius' muffled voice.
"Yeah?"
"I hate that there's only one pair of arms around me. And not two."
I don't own Harry Potter.
