A creeping sense of dread could be felt through the town. At least, Michael could feel it. Over the past few days, strange things had been going on throughout the small town of Lamb. Farm animals had disappeared, a child had been found dead, assumed to be due to a fall and numerous boards from the town wall had been ripped off of their nails...from the outside.
Michael sighed to himself. Tonight, he thought to himself, couldn't possibly get much worse. He gazed up at the stars, thinking back on the events, trying to find connections. The farm animals could be related to the boards being ripped away, but that didn't explain how they could have been removed in the first place. No animal he could think of was anywhere near that strong. The child on the other hand was nigh impossible to explain. For starters, he had been nowhere near a cliff. In fact, there were no cliffs in the village. Something was certainly wrong with the past week.
Michael hopped down the short distance from his roof to the ground, and went back inside, trying to not be too downtrodden by his thoughts. He decided to try and get some rest before discussing his ideas with his neighbor Sally, and see if she had any thoughts on the matter. He rummaged through his cabinets to find something to eat, before deciding against it and getting into his bed.
Something loud crashed out in his living room as he was on the verge of sleep, and he bolted upright. Worrying over the idea of a home invasion, he tried his hardest to not make a sound as he slowly crept out of his room and peered around the corner into his living room. There was something there. Tall, and dark, yet very thin, a monstrous figure was hastily trying to right rather large clock that it had knocked over, but thousands of tiny pieces had flown out of it and fixing the situation was hopeless for it. Michael shuddered at the sight of the beast. A dark, purple shimmer was around it, and small flecks of what seemed to be purple light kept flying into it as he continued to look. Suddenly, the tall monster stopped what it was doing. It looked around and noticed Michael peeking around the doorway, and it froze. But it didn't freeze as if it was someone caught breaking in. Large, soulless eyes, extruded a hazy purple mist, and long, black teeth that seemed to be a part of it's jaw clacked slowly as it breathed.
Michael quickly looked away and ran towards his room, desperate to get away. The thing was a monster he had only heard rumors about from merchants from the next few towns over. A shrill scream erupted from his living room as he realized he had just done the worst thing imaginable in his current situation. He had looked away. A sharp blast of violet filled his vision as the beast was suddenly blocking his path. Stumbling, Michael attempted to change direction, but the things arms wrapped around him, and a tight, clawed hand wrapped around his neck. Being pulled close to the face of the monster, he could see a disturbing intelligence. It knew exactly what it was doing. The grip around his neck tightened further, and he could no longer feel the rest of his body, nor move any of his limbs to struggle. With terror, he realized his spinal cord had been severed. The demon flung him to the ground, where it crouched over him. Michael, in his last few seconds of consciousness, realized that it was eating him.
