Authors Note: Ok so I absolutely adore Disney's Pocahontas, but the ending always bothered me. If they really loved each other then wouldn't John have come back once he was healed? It's just a thing that's been bothering me so it finally led me to writing a different ending. I hope you like! –Elphaba1fan
Thomas
woke up to the sound of all the men preparing for war. He grabbed his
gun and hat
and joined them in marching towards the designated
spot with the feeling he had forgotten
something...
Pocahontas had never run so fast in her life, and now she was shielding John from the club her father had just about used. She had spoken from her heart and now waited desperately. Finally her father spoke as well.
"My daughter speaks with a wisdom beyond her years.
We have all come here with anger in our hearts...but she comes with
courage and understanding. From this day forward, if there is to be
more killing... it will not start with me." He turned to a
fellow Indian. "Release him." Once John's bonds
were cut Pocahontas rushed into his embrace. Normally this would be
where the happy music would come and all would be well.
Unfortunately some endings have a twist and Pocahontas's
ending didn't seem like it would be a good one. Ratcliffe looked
from the two embracing to the chief.
" Now's our
chance! Fire!" He yelled. Thomas looked
flabbergasted.
"No!" Ratcliffe gave a confused look. Did
the pipsqueak just disobey his order?
"What?"
"They
let him go." Thomas continued.
"They don't want to
fight." Shouted another. Ratcliffe glared.
" It's a
trick! Don't you see? Fire!" The men just looked at
him, their minds set. Ratcliffe began to panic and grabbed the gun
from the man closest to him.
" Fine. I'll settle this
myself." John looked up when there was an uproar over by
Ratcliffe and his men. He saw the gun being pointed at the chief and
before he could think twice he dove in between the gun and
Pocahontas's father.
"No!"
"John!" Thomas
cried. John fell with a thud. Pocahontas was by his side within
seconds. He looked up confused. He was supposed to be in complete
agony right now. Ratcliffe's yell caused him to look over at
everyone.
"Thomas you idiot! Was it not your job to load the
guns?!" Now Thomas remembered what it was he had forgotten and
relief filled his body.
"It's a good thing I didn't! You
could have shot him!" Now Ratcliffe was panicking openly.
"He
would have stepped right-- right into it. It would have been all his
fault!"
"Smith was right all along."
"We
never should've listened to you." Ratcliffe made to get
away but to no avail.
"Get the gun!" Thomas snatched
it away.
"Traitors! Unhand me, I say! How dare
you!" Ratcliffe said struggling.
"Put him in
chains!" Thomas ordered. Ratcliffe got real close to his
face.
"I'll see you all hanged for this!"
"And
gag him as well!" Thomas said confidently.
Pocahontas helped
John up and kissed him. Her father realized that he would have risked
his own life for the tribe and went to him.
"I thank you."
He said bowing. "Because of the courage an honor you have just
showed there will always be a place for you here."
So John
stayed with Pocahontas and Ratcliffe was taken to jail. Everything
worked out the way it was supposed to, and peace settled in
between the two different races.
